Hey LTT... I got a design question.. As far as water is concerned would it be possible to drill some holes in the bottom of it in order for it to drain out?

I assume you mean drilling holes in the bottom of the airbox. Yes, you could do that. But I still would recommend going back to the stock airbox scoop if you know you are going to be fording any deep water. (Or if you drive behind El Chico on the Marsha Sharp Freeway in LBB during a downpour. Almost floated away in a Tempo there once. )

Anyone come up with a design for the 02-04's yet, maybe using a 2" hosee instead of the 3" hose?

I have driven in some very heavy downpours with no problems. The first heavy rain I drove in after installing (15 miles at 60 MPH), I pulled into the garage and pulled the air filter to see if it was wet. Did not even have in the airbox, and the filter was dry. I think there is enough bends, and upward air flow that it keeps the water from getting to the airbox.

Nope. Still waiting on someone with an 02-04 to mock-up something and send it to me. I'm still willing to give it a shot.

What exactly do you need for the 02-04? I want one so bad that I'll make it during my summer time off school.

Let me know?!?

I'll get started tomorrow then...do you have SolidWorks?

I have SolidWorks, but we use it mainly just to open/import files from vendors that use SolidWorks. I do most of my Design in Pro/Engineer. I've used about every solid modeler out there except Catia. They are all about the same once you learn the picks and clicks in each of them. I just export out an STL file from the modeler and send it to the "printer" to make the parts.

I'm not into snorkels at all, but don't want to loose the stock height air intake. I am concerned with your location as others have stated too, but don't want the snorkel and still want real CAI. If you ever make a CAI design that stays as high as the stock one, I'll buy one for sure, but I can't justify a CAI that I have to remove when off roading. :(

Your design is absolutely killer for those not worried about water fording. Great work!

hey LTT question how hard would it be to implement your system into something like the BMW's have? The Fender CAI? Using one of those air deflector deals..

Now you two have me thinking. Got any pics of the BMW idea? Although, I am not too fond of cutting a hole in the fender to try it. But it does sound like an interesting, and promising idea...

Do you think you could make something so that it sat above the location you have made now, and it would suck up from the top of the grill, so the hole would be facing down instead of forward? I'm not sure there is any room there but if you could figure out a way to do that, you'd be my hero.

Actually i been thinking about this too, how hard would it be to cut a little square into the front of the hood, and fashion up your intake to sit in the cut out. From the looks of your pieces it wouldn't be hard to make it look professional, we'd be able to keep the height (even add maybe an inch or so) just an idea I don't know how hard that would be to do.

Tumanator your idea has already been done my friend:
http://www.suncoastcreations.com/eshop/ ... ductID=460

Now Inc.. since I have one of these intake kits it would be impossible to come from the top of the grill. There's just not enough room there, a possiblity though if you're worried about water is to do what they used to on Dodge Neons, install a bypass valve for the water before it goes into the airbox. it's made out of some sort of foam so if there's water coming into the box it let's it pour through..

LTT: I can't find the friggin link that I saw that on.. I believe it was on a Z3 but I can't find any, I know some of the Dodge Ram 1500's had Fender Intakes and they work great especially when lifted.. but why not design something that can be used and put in within 15 minutes maybe something using that plastic front part by the windshield..

That's not quite was I was talking about, that's a full hood scoop I don't want that, i'm just talking about modifying the stock hood and using LTT's intake scoop, just modifying it and inverting it horizontally. You know kind of smooth it out so fits the contour of the hood to some extent. I don't like the full hood scoops cause i drive on dirt roads to much and I like a clean engine :)

OK, I got a quick question, I want your opinions please. This design is far the best idea for a true CAI, but I'm kind of a motorhead and love the sound and feel of my AEM CAI. So here's my idea: If I used just the scoop in the grille and directed the tube towards the CAI, would I get any advantages from this? This way I was thinking, the CAI would be getting a fresh breath of air. Maybe I could use another scoop facing the CAI. What do you guys think? :?:

I have the k&n and did what your talking about I did not use LTT's design I just made my own from a shop vac attachment and tubing. I did it all at the same time so Iam not sure if it helped out much but I did notice an increase of about 2 mpg on the HWY

Can you plug up the hole and tell me how it works?!? J/K
I was just going to make my own too. I guess it wouldn't hurt anything?
