My guess is just a cone filter with tube which is sucking all the HOT air in from the engine vs. yours that gets all the COLD air from outside.

Not all tube and cone intakes suck hot air. Mine is blocked off from engine heat and gets fed like this intake from the grill.

That cold air tube is not standard on the K&N is it? I thought it was just the cone and the box around it.

Nope. I had it lying around, but you can get one from most autoparts stores for a few bucks.

I have the first couple of the intake scoops and airbox adapters ready to ship out. I know these work on 05-07 models. Jeepjeepster is checking fitment on the 02-04 models now. If this version doesn't fit the 02-04, I will make another version for them as well. I will posts updates here as they come. I do not know if these will fit the KK, but if someone wants to try, or give me the info needed to make a KK version, I will be happy to make one for them too. The cost is a tad higher than I initially had quoted. The reason being, I forgot to include the cost of the support material for the 3D printer that I had to buy too. Remember, I am not making money on these. I am just sharing my design with all of you that had an interest. These are built on a 3D printer (rapid prototyping machine). The material is ABS plastic.

Grill intake scoop: $45
Airbox adapter for 3" hose/tubing: $50
Shipping one or both of the pieces listed above to anywhere in the continental US via USPS 3 Day Priority Mail: $12.95
. I checked shipping prices other than that,
. and shipping parcel post post required me
. to buy my own boxes. Added all up, it was
. only a couple dollars less, and I figure
. most would rather have the faster shipping.
If you want me to ship outside of US, I can quote that to you individually.

If you want one of these, just PM me. I will take payments via Paypal. I have 2 of the scoops and 2 of the airbox adapters ready now. I can only use the machine after hours and on weekends, so I will be taking orders on a first come, first serve basis. Please be patient on these initial orders, since it seems that a lot of you are interested. I'll create a running/waiting list for the initial orders and fill them ASAP. You won't need to pay until I have yours built and ready to ship. Then once I have yours built, you pay, and then I'll ship to you.

The hose to run between the scoop and the airbox is just 3" aluminum dryer vent hose that you can pick up at any Lowe's or Home Depot. You can use hose clamps if you want, but they really aren't needed. It fits pretty snug without them. You can also pick up a couple of plastic push-in rivets at the hardware store too for mounting.

I used both pieces on mine. However, dieselenthusiast is going to just use the intake scoop and then cut a 3" hole in the bottom/side of the airbox with a hole saw to feed his airbox. He has promised pics of that setup once he has it done.

If you have any questions about these, feel free to ask.

I just cut the rubber barrier piece horizontally just above the second hole. Then I folded it back behind in case I ever need to go back stock.

I know this is old but ever get it figured out for an 02??

I'd be interested.

Yes. For the 02-04, all you really need is the airbox adapter. There is a perfect hole for the 3" tube behind the grill. I think steve03sport put some pics up of his setup. If not, maybe he can take a couple and post them.

Ended up completing my install tonight. Turned out nice.
LTT you do a real nice job with these parts.

Took it for test drive does seem more quick to respond.
But really looking forward to seeing an increase in MPG.

If a 02-04 front duct is ever fully figured out let me know.
Works with just the aluminum vent duct coming through.
But IMO looks much cleaner and more factory with the scoop.

I have a CRD so cold air isn't a concern for me, but with the way your intake is set up, my main concern is if someone going into water. it's kind of like a direct channel for water to go into, granted that the water would need to be entered with some speed for it to get pushed all the way up the piping.

Yes. That has been mentioned several times in the 7 pages of posts here and over on JKJ forum too. If you are going to be fording deep water, don't use this. Get a snorkel. But it works fine running highway speed in HEAVY rain downpours. I have checked filter immediately after running 30 miles through heavy rain and filter was nice and dry.

Post subject:  Re: LTT True Cold Air Intake for KJ's

I have a similar feed on my intake system without the bonus of the water having to go uphill like the LTT solution and even after driving in heavy rain or even a high pressure wash my filter stays pretty dry. So if you have a LTT intake youll be more then fine.

As for his products well I have the spacers and they are a work of art. Now to find the time to put them on...

If water is a concern.... poke a hole in the downward turn of your intake tube....

I can't get the dryer vent setup to work... are you all using heavy duty vents? b/c mine has splits in 2 different spots (probably from the twists I have to make in order for it to hookup correctly)
