Today I drove from Philly to DC on I95, but before I left home I duct taped the CAI holes closed as a little experiment. I can say that the same rpm fluctuation, +100 rpms every 15 seconds or so while driving 55-65, still happens! So it is not a CAI thing. It's a my Jeep thing.

Today I checked the intake temperature sensor using my Scangauge. The CAI does cool the intake air down, particularly at slow speeds. At highway speed, the intake temperature was only a few degrees higher than the outside temp with the holes taped shut. However, as traffic slowed, the intake air temp climbed to 15-20 degrees F higher than ambient, due to the heat produced by the engine. When the CAI holes were open on my last trip, this difference was cut to only a few degrees.

Hope this post helps answer some questions. I am happy that the rpm fluctuation was not due to something I did. It probably happened all along, but I only started paying close attention to the engine performance after I made the cold air intake. Let me know if you have any questions, or if you'd like me to try any other experiments with the CAI.

Lol.. that's hilarious.. Well I ain't got a problem with water yet.. but I was just curious if when it's raining if you have had it sucked up..

I have driven in some very heavy downpours with no problems. The first heavy rain I drove in after installing (15 miles at 60 MPH), I pulled into the garage and pulled the air filter to see if it was wet. Did not even have in the airbox, and the filter was dry. I think there is enough bends, and upward air flow that it keeps the water from getting to the airbox.

Way back when... Page 4 of this thread... Never had any trouble with water getting into air box either.

How about when wheeling??? Maybe Tom might know too? Lower intake makes it more risky. :\

Yes, it lowers the intake position. If you are planning to go through any deep water, I'd go back to stock intake to wheel, or get a snorkel.

I've got a new one that I never installed. Send me a PM and I can get it mailed to you for a decent price.
