Ummm, more like I drive a 0-60 in 3 seconds, I can pull rubber in all gears in 4wd TJ kind of way.

Why not just buy an actual sportscar if you were going to do that? Honestly if that guy doesnt take it offroading he's an idiot.

Honestly, I think it is a genetic flaw for some people.... like me
It seems that no matter what I get, I need to modify it. People like us think "why buy a good sportscar, when you can modify the hell out of something else!!" Of course, modding a sportscar would be fun too, but a V-10 in a TJ... that has serious fun potential. I'm sold, now, if I could just get the money to make my own.

It really isn't about practicality, more about the fun or challenge of the project.

Why not put a v10 in an s2000 or something then? If you put a v10 in a tj you can go fast in a straight line, but nothing else :?

while smoking all 4 tires at a stop light would be a riot, i think the biggest bonus would be the added torque off road

There was a blue TJ built by the same place in Burnsville here in minnesota that was featured in Peterson's 4 wheel drive and Off Road. It had the Viper V10 swap and was built as a real rock crawler. The authors seemed to think it was capable and they have yet to let me down on advice (except on the KJ)

Something else to look at to is pullin up next to some guy in a sports car in that TJ, could you imagine the looks on their faces when you smoke em....Bout like the Tracker i had that i "slightly" modified.....It would smoke just about anything....firebirds, mustangs, hondas, and many more...they always start out laughing and at the end leave with that holy S@#T what just happened look on their face.....

Off roading I would love to have that kind of torque provided everything behind it could handle it!

UPDATE: Since I will be leaving soon for military training, I won't be able to drive my KJ for a couple of months. Seems like a good time to drop my KJ off at shop to have the swap performed. I have sent an email to burnsville offroad http://www.burnsvilleoffroad.com see if they would be interested in performing the swap... I will post again when I get a response to see what they say. Since I won't have to pay rent or food all of my monthly income will be disposable except my insurance and Jeep payment...seems like a higher power wants this to happen. Lets see if Burnsville Off Road thinks the same way...

I hate to burst your bubble buddy, but a V10 S2000 probably won't do too well in the curves either...

Almost anything is possible, back in the mid 90's I put a mustang 5.0L in my Volvo 240 wagon. It was an easy swap with the kit from Converse Engineering. Di I surprise several Camaros, Mustangs, and Porsches! That car was fast. I left the diesel badge on it for a while, piped the exhaust thru a factory turbo system.

While at camp Jeep, talking to one of the Chrysler guys on the side, I was asking him what kind of work would the swap to the 4.7 would take. He told me that they had a cople of 4.7 Liberty running around their test facilities. The brass, as he told me, didn't wnat to upset the sales of the Grand by letting the Liberty have the 4.7. I don't think this guy was BS-ing me. Contact american expeditions and see what they needed to do to swap in the hemi to the TJ. If you get a 4.7 from the dodge it should bolt right up the the 45 tranny, since the ram had that tranny. The 3.7 share alot of the parts with the 4.7.

I have dreamed of this also, but...... I will stick with goofing around with the computer, and maybe building a 3.7 with HD pistions and putting a vortex blower on it.

Al

What about converting the 3.7L to a 3.7L HO like they did with the 4.7L. different heads, cam, bearings, injectors, and vibration damper.

the 3.7 HO parts don't exist...lots of custom work involved means lots of money. It would still require a new computer program to run it and it might get the same power as a 4.7...The 4.7 HO would be reliable power and we all know reliability is what counts on the trail. Parts would be easier to come by on a 4.7 HO then a 3.7 HO. Don't get me wrong-I love the idea of a 3.7 HO, but since the parts don't exist...

Maybe not, and I doubt even a v8 would fit in the car, but it wouldn't roll if you tried to turn like a v10 tj would.

ok, what's say we pick this thread out of the sky and get back down to what the original question was, has anyone really looked into this??? Does anyone have some pictures or links or anything like that? i know there are a few of you who claim to have heard about it or seen it, any hard evidence, i'd LOVE to see one!!! I'm a 17 year old kid so i'm desperately power hungry, so anything that makes VROOM!!! is good...even if it's not a V8 swap, and here's a call out for KY Liberty or Onelowliberty, what have you guys done for performance, what were the results, and how reliable was the truck afterwards???

Thanks,
-Savage-

Savage, I have looked into it. I actually went to Burnsville Off Road (the people who brought us the CRD Rubicon and the Viper powered TJ) with my KJ and told them that I would leave the Jeep with them for four months (have military training coming up). They estimated $10,000 in parts and labor...they said it was doable but the first one won't be easy and will require big money which I don't have (I could probably swing $6-7k for the swap but $10k is a stretch).

HOLY HAND GRENADES!!! Does that include motor, and if so what kind...that seems a little rediculous...oh well, guess i'll just have to deal with my beefy little 3.7 for now (more torque than HP RULES  )

I'm trying to decide if I should get the race motor completely rebuilt, with a direct 120 hp shot, like I've already discussed with the builders, or if we can actually fit a built 4.7 HO with a direct 160 shot in there. It's not going to be easy though. It would connect to the 45RFE easily and my torque converter can handle 600 hp, and replacing the ECU isn't too bad, but the motor driven fan would have to go, and an electric would have to be somehow mounted in front of the radiator and wired backwards to push air to maybe squeeze it in. I still don't think it will drop down in a wreck though. I'll probably have to put a built Dana 44 in the rear once I destroy the 8.25" too.
