The 3.7 V6 is a 4.7 minus two cylinders, so has anyone heard of or seen a 4.7 conversion? Yes I realize it may require serious modifications-but it would be worth it. The motor mounts would be the same and they do line up (i checked on a friend's WJ). The only problem would be length. Is there an aluminum radiator that is more thin then the stock one? could I mount fans in front of the radiator instead of behind (like stock)? Just throwing out some ideas.

Height (in): 15.500
Width (in): 26.250
Thickness (in): 2.625
Flow Direction: Puller
Fan Quantity: Dual
Maximum Fan CFM: 2500

This is an electric fan from Flex-a-lite.

Radiator Style: Crossflow
Overall Width (in): 27.000
Overall Height (in): 19.000
Overall Thickness (in): 2.000
Row Quantity: Single-row

A Be-Cool radiator.

I haven't done any measurements or anything so I don't know if these would work, but just though I would keep the ideas 'flowing'. :) Most of the fans that I looked at were puller's.

Its an easy conversion, go to the jeep dealer, trade in Liberty for G Cherokee.

I would love a swap for a bigger engine, especially as my tire size keeps kreeping up.

I swear that one of the posters on the old board was talking about a trip to the dealership where he overheard/talked to another customer who was ordering parts for his libby, he told the dealer that he had swapped the V-8 into his KJ.

I remember hearing about somebody, in Pennsylvania I believe, who ran into a guy looking for heavy duty springs for the front of his KJ because it was sagging a good deal after he dropped in a V8. Never heard anything directly from the guy with the V8 on any forum.

I need a "pusher" fan, 12 cases of beer, 4.7 V8 and two weeks at the machine shop, I think I could get this to work. Hold on while I rake the lawn under my money tree.

If i wanted an answer like that I would have talked to a Jeep salesmen...They know EVERYTHING!!! But seriously, I am placing a Wanted Ad out on this one:

If you or anybody you know has information leading to installation of a 4.7 in my Jeep, please PM me. You can't tell me nobody has thought of this yet. I am sure one you engineers has tossed this over in his/her head.

I have thought about this, and it can be done, fairly easy, the hardest of the tasks would be, as always, ECU and harnesses. As for radiator/fans and such... keep 'em. Leave the readiator where it is and put the electric fan on the outside of the radiator. Wire it up backward(to make the fan a pusher, not a puller) and ditch the engine driven fan(if you have one)... Plenty of room now(maybe an inch between the v-8 and the radiator.) motor mounts no problem, slight exhaust mods. If the cherokee has a different tranny, I'de recommend swapping to it... even though ours will, in theory, bolt up... then TA-DAA

Horsepower

I LIKE IT :!:

Question... Wouldn't the fan become a pusher if you just flip it around when you put it on the outside of the radiator? Just a thought.

remember the electric fan is in a "cage" of sorts... so putting in on the other side of the radiator would mean turning it around also, which would be trying to push air forward, out the front of the truck.

Yeah, I was just thinking that maybe there was a way to work it so that it will do what you needed w/o having to spend the extra $$$ on a new one.

The wiring harness and ECU would be a piece of cake provided you have the original for the 4.7, not sure about getting it to interface with the BCM though.

The crd has a fan on the front of the radiator. Check that out. Maybe you could get a fan from one of those.

Post subject:  My thoughts

Didn't realize anyone was still using pusher fans. Pulling is much more efficient.

If a 5.0L V8 from a Mustang can fit in a Miata, why can a 4.7L V8 fit in a Liberty. My dad is a Miata nut.

I'd get a 4.7L from a WJ, as the KJ and WJ share many of their electronics. You should be able to swap the PCM's along with the engine and have no problems.

The 4.7L will also mate to the tranny in the KJ just fine, but you may want to swap up to the 45RFE if your KJ came with the 42RLE.

some of the new aluminum radiator take less space versus a conventional radiotor and a two row will cool like a four row regular radiator.they take less space with better cooling, and most of them come with some sort of electic fan kit as a option.

FLX-398-reversible direction electric fan from Summit racing for $119.00
Height: 16.625
Width: 15.750
Thickness: 4.000

SUM-380331-Aluminum 2 row radiator for $179.99
Height: 19.000
Width: 30.875
Thickness: 2.875

Seems like that would give us an extra couple inches of clearance and cool the engine sufficiently...
There go our cooling problems, maybe our space problems too.
I've already got a 45rfe (i soooo love my '02)

Anybody know where I can find a wrecked WJ?

I don't think I could take my $90,000 Jeep off-roading.
