Hey all, my KJ has about 130k miles on the factory struts and shocks so I'm looking to replace them. I did a Google search and came up with a few different companies (Rancho, Monroe, KYB, etc) that offer shocks or struts. I've never had to buy or replace any suspension components before so I feel kinda L.O.S.T. This KJ is a daily street driver, only goes off-road once or twice a year. My main concern is that I will be able to have a comfortable (not stiff/bouncy) ride and not lose any "responsiveness". Does anyone have any experience or suggestions on which brand to use? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

If you have 130,000 you need more than just shocks all the way around, you need new springs as well. Stock springs and shocks start to sag after 30,000 / 35,000 miles
If you want a good riding suspension get a set of light or medium OME springs , little bit heavier than stock, not a rough ride but good on the road and a set of replacment shocks from Rancho ,
You'll be amazed at how much better it handles and rides

Yep I can verify that my KJ looks to be quite a bit lower than when I first bought it new. SOOO does OME make replacement spring/shock/strut kits to get me back to the original ride height and soften up the ride? I feel like I'm being so picky by not lifting it but it's just not in my budget! I Googled Old Man Emu and it gave me some Land Rover website... anyone have any Part Numbers? Thank you guys for your earlier responses! :)

Doesn't cost any more to lift, all OME springs are in the 160 range for two

what they call stock are the OME 925s 350lb
( stock are in the neighborhood of 300-320 lb depending on accessories)
Mediums are OME 926s 375 lb
the heavy dutys are OME 927s 400lb
for the rear they have mediums OME 947s
and Heavy Dutys are OME 948s

Rustys had the more stock rated ones (OMEs ) on sale a couple of months back not sure now.

Several places can get them for you. AllJs ( www.boulderbars.com) are one of the advertisers here and great to deal with. Call and talk to Heather.

For the front even lifted use the same shock( strut) for the rear a stock lenghth shock with the 925s would work or OME makes a good replacement shock

Like I said if you replace it all you'll be asking yourself why you didn't do it sooner

You will not get a softer(and horrible, unsafe) ride then what you have now.A firmer ride is better for your vehicle and handling.Stock coils will be about twice as expensive as OME coils also.

Sorry but it's a Jeep and not a caddy.

once the OME coils (even HD's) get through the break in period they are actually pretty smooth riding, i'd imagine the mediums would be smoother and more appropriate if you don't plan to add more than skids any time in the near future

the jba2.5's should be fine as well with just skid additions

now if you do plan to add a front or rear bumper you'll need something other than the jba's along the line of OME-HD's

Well I think my mind is made up... 925's up front and 947's out back. I think I'll go with Rancho for the shocks. Thanks everyone for the posts!

I would really do the OME 926s at least, but at least you're upgrading
