Daystar lift help

Okay so all my local shops will install my kit for $400+. Some economy right... I'm just going to do the install myself. I just wanted to know what all I need to have to make this a smooth install? Tools, jacks, anything that would help. Thanks.

can use ratchet straps to compress the rear springs

you'll need a set of jackstands and a half decent jack

i would suggest paying the few bucks to get the front coil over units reassembled with the daystar pucks at a shop and then reinstall the units yourself

other than that, it's pretty much standard socket/ratchet and a few inch extension

Here is a really good how-to. I just brought the laptop out to the garage and followed it when I did mine. Took about 4-5 hours doing it by myself in the driveway the first time. I can tear it apart and back together in half the time now.

Thanks. That's exactly what I need. Any chance that some one could tell me where to get brake line extension brackets; will I just need them for the front? Also which bumpstops work well with this kit, or is that not a concern.

if you buy the KJ09115BK Daystar kit, it comes with the extended front bumpstops. Search online. It has been discontinued and replaced with one that does not include bump stops. But several Ebay shops still had it last time I checked. If not, get the teraflex bumpstops. tyou can make a brake line bracket extensions pretty easy with some scrap metal. But I think JBA has some as a prefabbed part. You only need them for the rear. No need up front.

Don't forget to get a alignment right away.

Oh and I also see that you plan on getting a ARB bumper,might as well scrap the daystar kit right now and get OME HD coils otherwise you will loose all the lift with the heavy ARB and just a spacer lift using OEM coils.Better to do it right the 1st time then pay for a lift twice.Plus $400 is about the norm to install a lift on a KJ,the shop was not trying to rip you off.

I purchased the KJ09116BK kit. So I'm guessing I'll need bumpstops. I'm actually at my local 4x4 shop right now; they are saying that I don't need to worry about brake line extension brackets or rear bumpstops since it's a 2x4 liberty and I'm not planning on doing any crazy wheeling. They did say if it's a problem that I can bend the existing bracket a little and it should be fine. Can anyone confirm this? Also the ARB bumper isn't going to be purchased anytime soon. Thanks for the help everyone. Y'all have made all my stress disapate and kept money in my pocket!!!

You will need to make 2 rear brake line extensions since you have a '06 with ESP,you'll over-extend one of the rear brake lines on speed bumps and loosing brakes is not fun.Just takes a few mins to make and just a few $$ and saves alot of headaches even for a mall crawler.You can easily see where,both are on the left/rear side of the KJ.

I didn't have to extend mine, but I did, used a piece of whatever you call it.. that galvanized strap you use to hang garage door motors :lol:

Yeah. I just purchased the brake extensions kit from Rusty's Off Road. Only set me back $26 with next day shipping. I figured with the $400 that I'm saving in doing it myself; I might as well just buy the proper hardware. Hopefully I'll be able to do the install this weekend. Just hope everything goes smoothy.

ROTFL... This all sounds way too familiar. If I looked back on my initial mod intentiions 2 years ago when I had 31 post here too, I was asking the same type questions and had the same intentions as you. Anyone else remember that? I also have a 2WD with very little offroading. But from what I can tell already you are going to be mod-happy like me. I started with Daystar and have now moved to OME HD's. I would highly suggest that you return that Daystar kit and use another $150 of that $400 you are saving on installation, add it to the $150 you spent on the Daystar kit, and buy 4 OME springs. Looks like you already have new shocks, so you are good there. But trust me from my experience in your boat. Save that extra $150 now and just go OME to begin with. It will save you a lot of time and effort of pulling it apart down the road. Also, the ride of the OME is much better than the Daystar in my opinion.

Yeah I had thought about the OME springs but I had all new factory springs, struts, and shocks put on when I bought the liberty; that was at 40k miles. I've only put 10k miles on it since then. So I'm just gonna stick to the daystar kit so I'm able to get some bigger tires. Once I have the funds for my ARB bumper I'm going to invest in the OME springs and much better shocks. I figure I'll learn a few tricks with this installation so my next setup will be much smoother. I'm glad to hear that you were pleased with the daystar kit. Do you have Any tips for my installation?
