Can some explain to this newbie how to install the air intake I bought that came with not instructions on how to clean the filter or install the thing.Lookin at it seems simple but I just want to double check.The factory box has a hose which I am assuming goes to the hole in the tube that came with the new air intake.The rest looks like a piece of cake

I just installed an AEM Brute Force on mine. One thing to watch out for is the crankcase breather hose on the driver's side. On my '02 the hose runs from the crank case breather to the resonator at the top of the engine. The resonator is the thing that says "3.7L Power Tech" on it. It was around 23 degrees when I did the install and the crankcase breather broke off in my hand when I was putting the new hose on... It's only $10 to replace so no big deal. Just make sure the engine is still warm when you are working with plastic.

I installed a TBS and cold air intake last saturday. Any idea why I now get 13 MPG? I removed the resonator and left the filter box. Then piped the intake over to the empty air box. Here's how it turned out.

George, take the TBS off. Flash the PCM by doing this:

Disconnect the pos batt terminal and touch the body of the KJ for 30 seconds to drain all power from the PCM. Next, reconnect the terminal. Then turn the key just so that electrics work and turn the lights on then off then turn the KJ off. The next 50 starts are a training session for the PCM to "learn" your drving habbits. This should help your mpg.

i'm looking at doing a new intake, but i'd like to keep the factory airbox to keep the water and dust intake down...anyone know of just a tube that will go from the throttle body to the airbox, but eliminate the silencer box???

Or as an alternative, is there a way to get a full system that's not only heat shielded, but sealed up like the OEM air box???

Your milage went down because your not getting the "Ram Air" from that scoop thingy that has air blasted into at speed from the gap between the hood and grill.

This $45 version flows more air.

What did you do with the small black hose at the bottom of the air-box?Does that need to be attached to the new intake or is it fine where its at?

Mileage may go down because the maf senses more air flow, and richens it back up (spits more fuel into the head) to compensate. Bolt-ons like intakes and exhaust don’t do much until the computer is TUNED. either a reburn, piggy back chip or (not in our jeeps case) a standalone or aftermarket computers that can be tuned with a laptop and software. Another note is that the smooth inside of the charge pipe will reduce turbulence and will effect the velocity of the air charge. more air is nothing if the air doesn’t get into the manifold and into the head. some of the intakes I have seen have had a "power bomb" or chambers where the velocity is raised back up but now with more volume and they really DO make a difference in a torque curve.


like stated earlier, disconnect the battery and let it sit for 15mins. plug it back in and start driving. it will re-calibrat and you may notice a difference. the whole thing about touching the pos wire to the body?? i don’t know about that. compactors on the computer hold energy and may not like to be grounded like that. just let it sit all disconnected.

don’t laugh at me, but on the little imports we all hate... you can learn a lot about making power with them.

we have dyno sheets on a 2000 civic si, pulling like 135 horse power stock. with a cat back and generic cold air pull 139 horse power after those were installed. Then we simply disconnected the battery and hung out for a little bit, reconnected it and pulled again... this time 141. it works but dont expect a world of change.

The dyno is great, but ain't the car sittin still? Yes it will gain HP in that case.

Dyno it while your doing 70mph.

The difference in air pressure would be almost exactly like if you held your head out the window -VS- stickin it back inside.

Kinda as useful as leaving the belt off your turbo

To involk the velocity to any real measurable diff you'd either have to add pressure or add pressure.

the dyno pulls are under load... usually driven at the top gear... and there is resistance applied to the drums you are sitting on. Engine dynos are different they are basically on the crank... and have no drive train to take away from power.

and the belt off the turbo.... if there is a belt on your turbo then you are in trouble! lol. i think you are talking about a supercharger . but then again if the belt comes off your blower, you better get out the fire extinguisher!

So the Dyno has a super fan on it that blows faster as you "increase the load" to increase air pressure the same as ram air?

Now if you can attach a pressure meter to the intake and show me the results using Ram -vs- the cool lookin set up, I'll have grasped that it works. I can't seem to grasp the "physics" of the concept.

Now I can understand if you stuck that rig into a hood scoop of some kind.

The fan is just for cooling. basically.

I did however see someone that took a leafblowwer and stuck it on the intake tube of a stock honda, and toyota pick up on the dyno. with the blower full bore it made like 20 more hp... then they oppened a nitrous tank and shot it into the intake under the leafblower and no lie it made like 80hp more... I will have to find the vid clip... i think i know where it was.
