First, lets get you all straightened out here.
KJ has 4 Shocks. No Struts. Front is a Coilover assembly and is frequently mistaken for a strut assembly, but it is really shocks up front.
Tom has already probably already fixed the noise you have been hearing. But if not, check the 4 top bolts that hold the front shock assembly to the unibody. If those bolts are loose, they might clunk. But since it has never been apart, it is highly unlikely that they are loose.
Also, the stock shocks are shot by about 30-40k miles. Whether they look blown or not, your ride will be improved no matter what if you replace them.
