Looking into doing this because... I can. I know having a 3" tail pipe after the muffler isn't going to post any performance gains. I want a larger exhaust and I'm putting a super turbo on it because that's what I had before I re-stocked my exhaust system, and I loved the sound. I'm hoping the larger diameter pipe will add a deeper tone to the exhaust, and maybe take away some of the highway drone. Anyone (gasser) put a 3" tailpipe on?

i dont necessarily think it would affect tone much. my mustang gt before the jeep had muffler deletes and four inch tips, all it did was give it a slight rasp, and i mean the sound wasn't much different. achieving a deeper tone would be difficult, i would suggest a small bodied muffler, and even then i don't think you would like it. bigger body mufflers are deep, but they are also quieter. I've been shopping exhausts for the 3.7 since i bought my KK and just all around haven't been sold. IMHO, my jeep is tuned and has a cold air intake, and it sounds much better with stock, quiet exhaust than it would with an aftermarket muffler

Hooker Turbo was what i always put on my stuff if i wanted it quiet

ya could put a second resonator on it after your muffler, kind of like putting a trap on the end

Well I'm not neccisarily looking for "quiet" ... Just maybe cutting out some of the highway drone. Its mostly for the cool factor, as it is with most of the modifications we do to our vehicles. I threw a stock muffler for a CRV on the jeep (it was like $30) before my youngest was born, and I bought a different jeep. So now that I sold that jeep I want some more man sound out of the 3.7

put louder tires on it and the flowmaster drone at highway speeds is inaudible :P

I don't know, I like the way mine sounds with the 44 but I don't think it drones at highway speeds either... then again .. I'm sorta at a loss for hearing..

If I was the only person that would be traversing in the vehicle it would be a cherry bomb glasspack all the way! However my family is cruising in it and my youngest is 5 months... even though the sound of the MTR's i used to have always put my oldest son to sleep, My wife objected. I'll just do what I always do, tell her its broke and this is the best way to fix it!

i just can't convince myself to put an exhaust on the jeep. i know the monster cat back exhausts and banks sound good on the older 4.0's and the i6's they had in the old wranglers, but i haven't heard anything sound good yet on the 3.7. someone make this guy some suggestions and change my mind!

the Thrush Turbo I had on before sounded nice, growled in the lower RPM's, however it droned some, and if you gassed it the sound was that of a Japanese vehicle, a mean Japanese vehicle but still very ricey. Now i did just have it turn down after the muffler and that probally increased the in cabin noise exponentially. Minus the Japanese vehicle noise at the Higher RPM's a $30 oval glasspack sounds great.

I thought R>I>C>E>R wasnt supposed to be a racial term but a acronym...

to rice a vehicle is to add Race Inspired Cosmetic Enhancement or RICE it making it a R>I>C>E>R

as far as a 3" exhaust you could get a Dodge Hemi cat and Cherry Bomb Resonator and have good results the larger cat will take drone off and the resonator will take off the pitch.

Dynomax ultraflow. Flows over 2000CFM yet not loud at all but the cat back is 2.5in though. Honestly unless you plan on working the engine over and get headers the 3in would mainly be for bragging rights. I personally and thinking about 2.5in true dual exhaust one day to prepare for the engine build. But honestly I dont know when that will ever happen.

Basically yea, braggin rights and awesomeness! I'm a hot rodder, even if it has no practical application I want it just because. Got a guy thats going to be bending a peice of 3" aluminized for a 6er :pepper: All I need now is a Super Turbo with 3"in 3"out and to weld up a new flange. I still have to handle repainting my wheels, and handling a few other things but this is #2 my list especially since the cheap muffler I put on there about 18 months ago is already rotting... thank you freeman park! :JEEPIN:

3 inch maybe over kill and lose some low end, I had a mildly built 88 GMC 350 5 speed, etc short bed with 2.5 inch all the way with headers, ran good. Buddy owned a muffler shop at the time and we did a complete 3 inch headers to rear bumper with flowmasters sounded great , but off the line it was a dog after that , get above 35-40 and stand on it look out but in town light to light b...l....a...h...

but I would like to have a 3 inch tail pipe on mine  muffler back :-)r

my flowmaster 50 doesn't drown at all... and it has a very nice deep tone to it. it's not quiet.. and not loud. in my opinion it is the best muffler for the KJ. before buying it i listened to a ton of mufflers on 3.7's..

it's also strong... i've used it as a skid plate a few times... no damage to it at all.

I'll look into it, its money. And considering all I'll have into it is maybe $55 for the whole shibazz, I might be able to spare a few for a nice baller flowmaster. And my Jeep sees more sand, salt, and parking lots than trails. Its pretty much been down graded to mall crawler, I'll take it out and break it in about 18 months when I can afford to give it a front end transplant :JEEPIN:
