I've been working at my new job for about 2 weeks. Its only part time, but its 120-130 miles to get there and back. I've been driving my cummins to get 27 MPG. But diesel is going back up, I am sick of wearing out my duratracs that were $1200 and its got me pulled over twice. Once for the exhaust then the engine brake. I'd sell it for something like a Civic, Echo or something, but sentemental reasons say no.

I need to be driving my KJ.
Right now, I get around 17 MPG.
It has a brand new air and fuel filter, and at the moment she is practically stock, I also run premium/super.

Do those "Tornado" things work?
Is there a chip that would work also?

Good plugs , new air filter (stock or amsoil) proper tire inflation, fluids changed you'll get more than 17 for sure if not you have a problem
I pull 20.5/21 on the highway and thats lifted / Duratracs and lots of weight
Not sure where "Long story short 17MPG is about average and you won't get better from what people say,," comes from

but lets get reasonable,

difference between 17 and 20 ain't worth arguin over it's well within the average and if he's gettin pulled for engine braking then hes not just cruisin 130 down the freeway

makes ya wish you had a vw rabbit diesel pickup don't it :P Now that's MPGS , allll 55 of them with the skinny pressed against the floorboard

My wife's stock 04 KJ gets 21mpgs consistently, mine on the other hand..er we won't talk about that, lol. My 2002 Sport gets around 25mps when my wife drives it but only about 20 when I get it because i am not nice to it, of course It is a 2wd 5-speed :)

oh and I do have a diesel Rabbit Pickup:

how much ya want for it? :)

I sold mine a few years ago, and i swear.. it felt like two days later the fuel prices doubled

I really miss it, it was a awesome lil commuter truck , smoke the tires through 3rd gear and would run bout 70.. :P

1 TR rear bumper

I need to put a motor in it, it blew up in 1999 and the truck has been sitting in that shed ever since, I need to get it out and start getting it road ready with my son as he wants it for his first car (he is 11 now so that gives us some time on this father-son project)

Be real honest with ya, that would be cheap as dirt

if it was runnin!

I've seen them motors go pretty cheap , most of them had some pretty low miles too, they're a good mil to learn on (as that father and son project)

I'll trade ya a ranger with a hot 302 that needs either a C4 or a new manual - destroyed the manual pulling a trailer.. too much torque.. too much resistance. crunch

nah no thanks I couldn't get rid of this thing anyway, I do have a wrecked Rabbit diesel for the engine, honestly I have just been waiting for my son to get interested in working on it, which he has started to.

hey, i figured, but I had to ask :P

don't really want to get rid of the ranger but .. a rabbit pu would be about the only thing i'd swap it for

Check out this Popular Mechanics article on these "Miracle fuel saving devices" people sell. Long story short none of them work, but it's worth reading. http://www.popularmechanics.com/cars/al ... ge/1802932
