I have the 42RLE and want to know if you can do a swap for the 45RFE or the 545RFE any idea's? More or less what would need to be done for this to work?

First it would require you to change the crankshaft, if I'm not mistaken the flywheel for that setup has one more bolt connecting the crankshaft the the flywheel.

The bigger issue is the computer and the programming depending on what year you have the transmission has its own control module that needs to be reprogramed the newer kjs have the engine control module and tranmission control module in the same unit.
I'm sure almost all on this forum would agree the dealer would be absolutely useless for this kind of programming ( or most other pcm flash's) The only other route might be B&G performance

Possible different length's for the driveshaft's but thats an easy fix
I am unaware of anyone performing this swap, I would love to have the extra two foward gears. Fyi the 45rfe and the 545rfe are the same tranny just different programing

I ask just out of curiosity, and because I dont believe you can do the transgo shift kit on the 42RLE, which from reading is great to have done. I have an 05 lib sport with a tow package stock.

This is the shift kit I installed, dont bother buying the gasket its recomended to use RTV gasket maker I used black you can use red if you already have it. Where it was not particular difficult to install "more of a pain and messy because of all the tranny fluid". If you are not pretty comfortable wrenching I don't know if I would recomend doing it yourself and make sure you have a small torque wrench than is measured in inches because the valve body is aluminum and can easily be overtorqued. If you do this, it is the perfect time to change the tranny filter and even install a drain plug to make future filter changes much less messy. In my humble opinion when I do my tranny swap soon I most likely will not reinstall it, for day to day driving it shifts a little harder than I prefer" it didnt shift as hard the first 1,000 miles ??", but when you are flooring it, it shifts real nice and fast and this is when the kit really shines.

Here is the drain plug, be careful when tightening and use rtv on this too, those plastic washers break easy, ghuess how I know this !!

I know this is an old post but hopefully someone will still answer. Has anyone completed this swap yet? I have an 04 liberty with 42rle but the shop i ordered transmission from sent me a 45rfe, i have an 02 liberty i can use for parts but im not sure how much wiring and computer stuff is required. will i need to swap PCM for the ECM AND TCM? will the 04 3.7 run with the 02 ECMor will it need reprogrammed?
