Hello everyone, i'm new to the forum and I have a 2006 Jeep KJ 3.7L sport and the question of what muffler to get has been tossed around a lot but for my vehicle I was wondering what would be the "best" way of modifying the exhaust so I can hear that V6, original thought was to go for a muffler delete but I hear the whole controversy of "you'll lose back-pressure so you'll lose torque" so I was considering on just changing my muffler to a Flowmaster Super 44 or also a resonator delete, whats the loudest, etc. Thank you in advance

Quiet at idle, but is essentially a straight pipe at full throttle. You don't want back-pressure then.

Muffler delete will be super loud, you can test it by unbolting the muffler and removing the back half of the exhaust. It's a little hard to manuever out from underneath, but not too hard of a job. I run a cheap glass pack, it's not too loud at idle and still lets you hear the engine rev

Wow did my research on gibson they seem really good but i kind of want a decent sounding idle too.

I'm going to unbolt the muffler and see how it is if i'm not a fan I'll probably just commit to the flowmaster

Tom, I remember riding with you in your black Kilimanjaro KJ (going to town to pick up a cutting wheel and some bolts for my KK's rear sway bar IIRC). Your exhaust note sounded great at the time. Was that a Gibson?

Not a fan of Flowmaster. It is annoyingly loud.

I just put on a Flowmaster Super 44 to my '04. It's fun but I'm going to get a replacement down the road. It has a drone that's easy enough to avoid but still bugs me. I was thinking MBRP?

Depends on what model you buy.
My brother in law has a 1992 Toyota pickup with 4 cylinder and STOCK exhaust, and it's louder than the Jeep CRD, Either inside or out. But the Jeep with the 50 delta force has a deeper tone.
If you get a stainless steel one (whatever brand) if the drone is too loud you can wrap it with header wrap to make it quieter still, without worrying a about it corroding through.

Replaced my kJ muffler with the longest 2 1/2” center in/out dynomax superturbo muffler I could get - I think 28” casing. When cold, it has increased interior sound, when warm it’s as quiet as stock. Most likely the lengthening of the pipe when warm alters the nvh omitted by the exhaust. Picked up a bit of power from it at upper rpm and 1-2mpg. But, not a dramatic change ... still, I consider it a cost effective mod.

Unlike many other oem big mufflers, the kjs stock muffler is basically straight through albeit super long with a large open central chamber that houses fiberglass packing. Which makes it hard to beat for sound dampening and performance, so don’t expect a major performance upgrade.

I installed a welded Thrush several years ago. Its basically a 2-chamber flowmaster copy. Sound depends a lot on when you shift, and what you're used to. The 2500-3500 pull sounds amazing. Whatever, makes her happy. Still not as loud as the cummins truck. :goink:
