Gas milage

What are you folks with 4x2 getting for gas-m? I see those 4x4's talking about it quite often

I'm getting a steady 18.6 city and 22.5 highway

02-3.7L-auto-powertrax-K&N dropin-synthetic everything-245/70 tires-89 octane in the hot months

My 4x2 3.7 auto is getting about 12 city and 21 highway. This has been at 1200ft and about 80 degrees F average temp.
I have 265/75/16 Nitto Mud tires under a 2.5" daystar lift, and a thule bike rack on top. I was surprised to see that my highway mileage didn't change after the lift and tires, but the bike rack takes about 2 mpg away at 65mph.

On a recent trout fishing trip to colorado, I got over 26 highway in the mountains on 85 octane. This was on the 55mph back roads at high elevation. Went over vail pass twice, tenesee pass, fremont/climax pass, berthoud pass twice, drove up gold park till i hit snow, and made it all the way to fort morgan on the way back to wisconsin. 451 miles on one tank!!!

I think that the 3.7 has plenty of torque to turn the 265s at highway speed, and the loss of rpm gives me better mileage. Its all the accelerating in the city on 265s that hurts. My 45rfe likes to kick down to first gear around every street corner.

When my wife drives, she averages about 18mpg in combined city and highway driving. When I drive, I get an average 20mpg in combined highway and city driving. This was when we ran with the stock 235/70/16.

I just replaced the stock tires with 245/75/16 Dueler AT REVOs. We drove it from the Shennandoah Valley in Virginia to Williamsburg, VA, to Atlanta, GA and finally to Tampa, FL and averaged 19.5mpg. (Also pumped 89 octane).

Is this good or bad?

Lead foot, I mean my beautiful wife, gets around 16 in town. I got 21+ mpg going across the desert to AZ several weekends ago. 85mph, on cruse control, with the air on listening to Tom Petty the whole way. Made it without stopping.

well on an average week, i get about 230 if im lucky, that's with lift and tires. I'm about to do a tune up and a few engine mods to see if that will help.

-does anyone know if the throttle body spacer makes a noticeable difference performance or mileage wise?

I got 250 miles to the tank or 13mpg. with 31" mud tires steelies, light bar and 4 lights on the roof, and only about 80 pounds of audio gear! and I drive like a maniac becasue I love the Dynomax mufflers sound at 4,000 rpm and mud treads howlin down the road! :twisted:

I've got a 4X2 3.7 5-speed man. 2.5" lift and 245/70's and a K&N cold air intake. I get about 14.5 city and around 20 or so hwy. Before the lift I was getting 18 city 22 hwy. I guess those are the sacrifices that we must make. I miss the extra miles but love the longitude.

Do you all think i would see a drop in MPG or Performance if i went up to a 245/65/17 tire? its only .5in bigger than my current 235/65/17 which is a 29in tire. The 245/65's would be a 29.5in tire. I get around 250 to a tank in the city right now, 22 on the hw.

Depends what kind of tires you put on. If you go for All-Terrain or Mud tires you will loose MPG. The BFG AT/KO's are almost twice as heavy as the Goodyear Eagle RS-A's I replaced. Plus the more aggressive tread, wider tire, and softer tread compound eat away at the MPG and performance.
