As part of my 100K preventative maintenance I'm looking to rebuild or replace the rear boomerang (rear upper control arm).

If you replace the boomerang the options seem to be one made by Crown Automotive and the OEM Mopar. The street price of the Mopar part is about twice that of the Crown ($320 compared with $160). Somewhere I read a suggestion that the Mopar part was heavier duty. Is that true? Is it worth the extra money? Or are they of similar quality?

If the OEM is better it might be worth rebuilding.

(Relevant for 4x2 or 4x4 so I'm posting in 4x2.)

Mopar is heavier, although they look the same they do not last the same. I had one last 15,000 miles they replaced it with another one, it lasted 10,000
Go with MOPAR and be done
I'll admit mine gets more wear than most but money is money

That's what I wanted to know, thank you!

Not in a rush to do it (need to save pennies), but now I have a plan.

can anyone give a list of what i would need from rock auto to rebuild the original, they have a lot of bushings listed for the rear control arm...

moog has:
Rear To Axle (Lower Rear)
and
Rear Lower To Frame

so i am assuming i need 2 f the rear to axle, ad 1 rear to frame? or is it the other way around?

LCA in the rear have one on each end per side
don't know what 2 f the rear axle means

I procrastinated on replacing the boomerang as preventative maintenace, and the darned thing eventually failed on me. There wasn't much warning, just a little rattling now and then. When it failed it damaged the "axle stabilizer bracket" as well as the speedometer cable.

I ended having those replaced with Mopar parts and replaced the rear LCAs as well. Because I didn't do the work myself it was not cheap, but now the rear suspension is in great shape!
