 Okay, I'm really new at the discussions taking place on this board so forgive my ignorance!

What is a "locker" and what purpose does it serve?

I get the impression - actually I was told - that these vehicle should be raised rather than lowered. Why? Does it have to do with off road performance? Wouldn't it make the car more unstable and likely to roll?

Thanks in advance for any answers/info :?

No problem, ask away.

There are a couple different types of lockers and this link from the newbie info section gives a very good run down of all of them. Short version...with an open diff if one wheel is having issues with contact it sends all the power to that wheel. Which is normally fine. It's not fine if that wheel is having issues because you're doing the Jeep wave and the wheel isn't touching the ground. All the power for both wheels would be transfered to the one not touching. A locker splits the power between the two so you will always have traction.

Lift instead of lower? Heck yeah! A lift gives you higher ground clearance for going over obstacles and more room to put more aggressive tires. And it just looks right!

Hope this helps, don't hesitate to ask what you're thinking.

It makes curb jumping in mall and supermarket parking lots easier too. :D
