I dig performance. If I had the money I would make it so that my KJ could get rubber off all four tires in 4wd
when I punched it. It would be like a really big Subaru WRX with all terrain tires and a roof rack! You know what?
I am going to just put a Hemi in my KJ. Anyone got a saws all?

Did anyone see the Dodge/Mopar sponsored contest that asked people what they would use a Hemi for? The winner submitted a HUGE life size big wheel. Imagine the big wheel trike you rode as a kid, designed by Dodge, and equipped with a Hemi engine. I think there were 5 or 6 designs that made it but all of them were seriously amazing. I'll try to find a link and post it here.

I'll take a Hemi too.... but what I'd really like to do is toss a built Cummins 4BT in there.

that cummins 4bt is a little heavy...All cummins engines are, maybe a yanmar diesel? The marine ones are light weight and rev pretty high...

The Yanmar would be a very big step back.although not familiar with the marine engines though. PS whats wrong with the fine Italian built CRD already in them.

Chrysler had the big wheel on display @ "Chryslers @ Carlisle" last summer. It runs and drives, the were cruising it around the grounds! There was also a Hemi powered grille and a snow blower :D Power, more power !!!

I,ve got some great pics, I need to find a dummy-proof way to post pics...

Yeah that Cummins is a bit heavy- Maybe something a little smaller than? hehe. I might just have to go HEMI eventually. The CRD is a great little engine, like the 3.7, but I'd rather put something else in for a swap. Mercedes, Cummins, and some others have some pretty impressive engines to drop in that make the CRD's performance pale in comparrison.

I have read that the chrysler 300 has a CRD V6 3.0L that puts out 218 HP and 376 FT LBS of torque thats pretty close to the hemi. These are built in Brampton Ontario and are shipped to europe they also put the engine in a 300 Touring wagon AKA> known to us as the Magnum. The 300 runs 62MPH in 7 seconds not bad for a big car. I think that this would be a possible good transplant if they begin selling in USA.

How would the Yanmar be a step back? When the company I work for put in a bid to power the Navy's RHIBs we opted to use our 520 commercial stern drive backed by a Yanmar diesel. We put them up against the current contract holder, Mercury Bravo and a Cummins diesel. Both diesels were of the same displacement. The Cummins weighed a 1/3rd more then the Yanmar. Because of the weight issue we picked up 10 knots more top end speed with similar fuel economy. We won the contract showing that the little guy can still compete with the big boys (Mercury represents 80% of the sterndrive industry).

I can't disclose any more details because anything more in depth would either result in me being sued for breech of confidentiality or I would be arrested for treason. When it comes to homeland security the Yanmar was the top choice.

That isn't to say the Cummins B-series is a bad motor. No it is a great motor for what it was designed for. Let us not forget that this motor was originally built in the late fifties to power sprinkler or irrigation systems. It is simply too heavy for anything else.

I have personal first hand experience with 4 friends that own Cummins B-series equipped Dodge 3/4 and 1 ton pickup trucks. None of them has had any reliability problems outside of the automatic transmission (don't get me started on that). The main problems they have is in the front suspension due to weight. Lots of premature ball join and shock failure. The springs sag. Tires wear fast. I haven't seen those problems on my friend's and his parents Diesel GM's (both 6.5 turbo and Duramax) or my 6.2 1/2 chev. I never saw a problem with the powerstrokes (except the new 6.0 liter and its fuel glitches which is to be expected of a new motor.

Sorry for the long post but I hate to see a good engine like the Yanmar get sold short.
