Hello, I am Mike Shanley of Woodbury MN. I found this site in late January of this year and learned a lot about KJ's. You guys saved me a lot of trouble and money and I want to thank all contributors and the people who keep this site working.
Here is my Jeep story as told by Kemosabe: In 2001 I purchased my first Jeep a TJ (60th Yr) 4.0 L a real nice vehicle. I loved that Jeep and had a lot of fun with it. But my wife has MS and she had a hard time getting in and out of the TJ. In 2003 I told her to take the TJ back to the dealer and see what kind of deal she could get on trading it in on a Liberty. Mistake, mistake, MISTAKE!
The wife came home that night with a 2004 Grand Cherokee with all the bells whistles and buzzers. She asked if she could keep it. She really liked the Grand Cherokee -- we kept it, but it was not an off road machine. Some vehicles are just too expensive to take in the brush and rocks of the North Woods.
In 2005 Jeep introduced the CRD KJ's. My wife, drove at that time in either of two modes -- Acceleration or Deceleration-- Gas or Brake! And she was always getting 13 MPG or less in the Grand Cherokee.
This time I went with her to the Jeep Dealer. We test drove a KJ CRD and that was it. I had to have one. My angle was that it would save money in fuel. Now we had a vehicle she could get into and out of -- she liked to drive -- and I could take off road again.
As soon as the CRD was paid off. I bought a 2008 KK for my wife. Now we have it right. She likes the KK better than she did the Grand Cherokee and she regularly gets better than 18 MPG.
And I get the KJ CRD all to myself.
Life is good! Kemosabe
