Greetings from Elgin AZ... 5000 ft, 45 minutes from Tucson.
I have a 05 Limited CRD with 109K. It is my wifes daily commuter logging 90 hiway miles per day. We are very pleased except for the service expenses. Now it is due for the timing belt and it seems that there is very limited experience with the dealers/independent shops with this process.
Does anyone have knowledge about the safe life expectancy? I have heard that this is not an interference engine that self destructs with belt failure, but would hate to see my wife on the side of the road. I would normally have tried to replace it myself but at this stage of my life I can't attempt it. So I'm shopping for the best price from the most likely experienced mechanic. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Welcome Roger,

Sorry can't help you on the timing belt. I have 91000 and have just about finished buying all the parts for this service. I haven't found a mechanic yet, that is my next step. If I can't find anyone I trust, I'm going to do it myself next spring.

Green Diesel Engineering (GDE) a vendor on the forum has the special tools to do the job, you can rent them for a very reasonable price.
