I want to lift it 2.5 inches and do 245/75 16 mt tires. What did your guys mileg go towith that size tires and what gearing do you have?

Howdy

Mine dropped ~ 2-3 mpg - but I went from stockers at about 30 lbs/tires to E grade MTR's at ~50 lbs/ tire - Tire weight is a huge factor.

gearing isn't really an issue on the CRD unless you tow, it might be on 265/75 or 235/85 - but even that's depends on where/how you drive.

245/75 - just corrects the error in the speedometer

Hi, Jim. You're thinking is inline with mine. The 245/75R16 size is really the most "stock" for the KJs that still has a good selection of AT and MT treads available. I have 245/70R16s and they're nice, but no-one makes MTs in that size.

A good mild lift for the CRD (like OME, etc) would be a good choice and, along with possibly some plastic trimming inside the fenderwell) wold give you all the room you need.

One the exhaust thing, the "muffler-delete" mod is one of the easiest, cheapest, and most effective to add a little power and economy (with only a slight increase in sound volume). Make sure if you do it, you or the muffler shop replace the narrower 2-1/4 flange just after the cat with a real 2-1/2 flange to match the diameter of the tubing, then you pretty much cut just after the muffler and bend/trim/weld a 2-1/2 inch section of tube in its place.

Thanks thats what I was thinking too. I'm thinking running duels out the sides and may be run them through the bumper. That will be next I'm going to get the K&N in the morning. I would really like a three inch or even more like a six inch with some 33's but thats going to have to wait till I have more cash.

Dual exhausts on a CRD might be tricky as there's not much room to route the single manifold down both sides, but if that's your thing :).

Also, be wary of K&N filters. There are multiple users that have done engine oil tests before and after using K&Ns and after yields a MUCH higher concentration of silica (sand) in the oil. Since the diesel usually operates in surplus air condition, the extra airflow doesn't get you much, but does increase wear on the engine. Most (former) K&N users on the board (myself included) have stayed a high-quality paper or dry fabric OEM-style filter and been very happy. You might not notice the wear on a honda that blows the rings and gaskets at 150k, but the VM engine should last many hundreds of thousands of miles with proper care, so no need to shorten that. :)

Try searching for "K&N silica" on the board and you'll find the topics. They're great for racing or if you like replacing the engine periodically.
