YO,
Yeah, you read it right, I am in Afghanistan. Don't worry though, I'm only deployed and North Carolina's favorite son of the south will be back! Unfortunately, the Army stationed me in Texas. I don't have a problem with the state, it just 'aint home. So, down to the details. I S.C.U.B.A. dive and have been doing it since I was 13 years old (I'm 28 now), 4-wheelin' is my second hobby, and I am an Apache mechanic during the week. I have been in the Army for 7 years and plan on making it a career.

I don't have a jeep yet, but plan on buying a KJ (2002-2007 right?) as soon as i get back in June. I am here to make friends and get info on all the KJ has to offer (namely lift kits, engine mods, accesories and meet locations). I just came down on orders for Germany, so that is my motivation for getting a small SUV. If there is anyone out there who has info on 4-wheelin' in Germany, please dont be affraid to tell all about it, that includes all surrounding countries. Who knows, maybe I'll be the first to wheel over there, in which case, I will post tons of pics.

Thanks for reading,

I WAH HOPING I WAS IN THE RIGHT SPOT. ANY SUGGESTIONS ON LIFT KITS? I WAS THINKING SKYJACKER 2. PLATINUM. I LOOKED AT FRANKENLIFT, BUT ITS A BIT EXPENSIVE, EVEN ON E-5 PAY.

Hey Carolina Barefoot,

I have a buddy in Afghan right now too. He's an MP in the Army. I won't see him until December or Jan 2012, unless he swings by my way on his leave in June. But it's okay cause I'm thankful for what he is doing. He has a lifted 2005 Silver KJ with OME lift kit and 265/75/16 tires. Thank you for your service though!

You can't go wrong with a Liberty. I suggest the Daystar 2-2 1/2" Front/Rear Spacers & Upper Strut Plates with aftermarket rear shocks (if you plan to seldom or not at all wheel your Liberty). That all together will run you $250+shipping. Some online 4WD part stores do not charge shipping if the order is over a certain amount. If you plan to wheel alot more and looking for a better lift kit go with the OldManEmu 2" lift kit which is alot more pricy but you get your moneys worth. This is comprised of front/rear coil springs and front struts/rear shocks. A lot of guys on here run the OME lift plus a clevis lift; which means you lift the clevis 3/8" in return giving you 3/4" of lift. With the OME lift and the Clevis lift you're looking at the same amount of lift you would get from a spacer kit, which is 2.5"-3" (if I'm not mistaken). I'm one of the few women on here that have a modified Liberty  The reason I went with the Daystar Spacer lift was for two reasons: I do not wheel my KJ hardly and it suited my needs. Plus when I installed the lift kit, my Jeep had low miles. So the factory suspension parts were not sagging. I've put, I know, atleast 10,000 miles on my Daystar lift kit with factory suspension parts besides the rear shocks and it still rides great!

I would definately check out the Military Jeepers website. Lots of good info on there and discounts on Jeep parts.

Welcome to LOST
as you read through the lifts questions / answers you'll find that 98 % use OME springs and either OME shocks or Bilsteins ( used to use Ranchos but they discontinued them)
Skyjacker and Rustys have the same spring rate as stock basically and while they will give you lift for a short time, they sag quickly
You can do a good OME lift with Bilstein shocks and all needed bumpstops in the $800 range or so depending on where you buy

WELL, I JUST FOUND WHAT APPEARS TO BE A LIFTED (OR LEVELED) 2006 LIBERTY 4X4, 3.7L, WITH 61000 MILES FOR $14595. THE PRICE SEEMS A BIT STEEP, BUT ITS PRETTY SHARP LOOKING. I THINK I'LL HAVE THE WIFE HEAD OUT AND CHECK IT OUT. IF YALL GET A CHANCE AND WANT TO MAKE A SUGGESTION, TAKE A LOOK AT IT. SEARCH THE AUSTIN CRAIGS LIST FOR "JEEP LIBERTY 4X4", IT SHOULD BE ONE OF THE FIRST POSTS.

Make sure you have someone look over it before you buy it. You may inherit someone elses problems 8) I'm going to check it out myself. I have a friend in Pasadena that was wanting to sell his 2007 lifted liberty for $7000 just to get rid of it. He's done alot of work to it and he did wheel it hince the low price.

SWEET!

Yeah that was a good call. It looks too pretty to wheel IMO but looks can be deceiving :ROTFL:  Maybe you'll get back in time to do ECS 2011 out at Black Mountain in Harlan, KY with us. I live 2hrs from the spot  I know how busy you guys are...hardly get to talk to my buddy in Afghan on Facebook. It was 3 times a week now its like once every 2wks...

I know exactly where that is. I live in Clayton, about 20 mins outside of Raleigh. We go out to AB and TI all the time during the summer.

SO I'M THINKING I WILL JUST STAY HERE UNTIL I FIND MY KJ. I THOUGHT I HAD FOUND ONE, BUT IT HAD BEEN RIDDEN HARD AND PUT AWAY WET ONE TOO MANY TIMES. IT LOOKED GOOD, BUT THE FRONT END WAS ABSOLUTELY SHOT (BAD SIGN #1), IT HAD ZERO COMPRESSION IN CYL'S 1 AND 3 (RED FLAG!), AND THE SHIFTER TOOK SOME SERIOUS PULLING TO GO INTO "D" (THE DEAL BREAKER). I COULD HAVE DEALT WITH THE COMPRESSION, NOTHING A FULL MANUAL 351 WITH FORGED INTERNALS, A KENNE BELL 2.8LC, AND 28 LBS BOOST COULDNT FIX! WHILE I GOT YALL READING THIS, IS THERE A THREAD ON HERE DEDICATED TO 3.7L PERFORMANCE? OH, AND DOS ANYONE KNOW SOMEONE SELLING A SOLID KJ? APPRECIATE IT FELLAS!!

CAROLINA BAREFOOT...OUT :ALONE:

3.7 performance ?
Not much you can do really well unless you want to go into the 1000's of dollars
The way the engines are built not much you can do

YEAH, I FIGURED AS MUCH. EVERYTHING I HAVE READ SAYS THAT WHEN YOU EXCEDE 4LBS BOOST, YOU START GETTING INTO FORGET INTERNALS AND BALANGED CRANKS. I DID, HOWEVER, SEE THAT JBL OFFERS SOME AFTERMARKET "PERFORMANCE" HEADERS. THE DIMENSIONS SEEM TO BE STOCK, I DONT SEE HOW THAT IS PERFORMANCE. EXHAUST IS NO PROBLEM, ILL JUST DO SOMETHING HOME MADE. AS FOR A COLD AIR INTAKE, IT SEEMS THAT A SNORKEL (SAY THE ONE FROM SIERRA EXPEDITIONS) WOULD ACT AS A "RAM AIR" ALMOST, THAT WITH A GOOD K&N DROP IN WOULD BE A SUBSTANTIAL HP GAIN.

Well I was right about looks can be deceiving. I'd sell you mine but I LOVE IT way too much! :-)r

There is a member on here trying to sell his '06 Renegade. Here's the link if you want to check it out. He is asking 10 grand and with what all he has on it, I think it's a good price. This guy is a LOST Indiana member
