Hello everyone. We have a 2006 Liberty CRD that we absolutely loved until now. Started having EGR problems, now mass flow issues (P0101). We are learning there are probably valve rocker arm problems, dealer says $3K to fix! So I am here to find out what others have done, not my favorite reason for visiting a forum! We have had the car for 6 years and taken good care of it. Oh well, I am looking forward to learning somerhing. Kurt |

Welcome aboard, and where are you located in the Peach State? Lots of help on this forum. Run from a dealer like a scalded dog; 3k to fix rockers is WAY overpriced... ![]() Geordi is in GA and he has more experience with these motors than anyone else around.... ![]() |

I am in Calhoun, about 1 hour north of Atlanta, on the way to Chattanooga. Do you know where I can find Geordi? |

So here is the latest. By the way, there is a Jeep dealer in Cartersville, Ga. Who I can recommend. They were not experts but honest and were very deliberate in researching and keeping me informed. They did a Chrysler recommended test reading the mass flow output at idle. The test revealed no wear on the rockers but nothing else. They thought they fixed an intake leak but the light came back on tonight. I assume but will verify tomorrow that it is P0101 again. I like and trust these guys and they aren't gouging me for every minute they spend staring at the car. Problem is... What's really wrong here? I am tempted to try the GDE eco tune to see if it fixes the light isssue, since I think the problem is the result of something in the EGR system. Any Thoughts? Thank you, Kurt Calhoun, Ga. |

Two things to check for starters: Make sure the air filter is clean! Next, remove the rubber inlet hose between the air box and the turbo inlet and inspect it for a crack or split in the bottom. They are bad about splitting due to the oil contamination coming from the CCV hose. Many like myself remove the CCV hose out of the inlet hose and do what is referred to as a EHM (Elephant Hose Mode); this vents it underneath the engine. Some prefer to install a Provent canister in the circuit to keep the oil out of the intake hose. Both options work! ![]() Let us know what you find! ![]() |

OK, here'so the latest. Found an exhaust leak on the tube feeding the EGR valve. Fixed it and the light came right back on! Smoke tested the intake system and no leaks. I assume this means the elephant hose too as I did not specifically remove and inspect as suggested since the smoke test was OK. Rather than spend any more on "part swapping" I am tempted to go straight to the GED economic tune... Any thoughts? |

Does anyone recommend a garage for CRD in Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina or Pennsylvania? |

Here's the rest of the story. Get rid of your EGR system and life will be good. My NEW EGR valve had a very slight leak, it cold pass a very small amount of air when on the bench. Rather than replace it again, I blocked it off and installed the GDE tune. The car now runs great, no CEL, no smoke, better power, better fuel economy and clean engine oil. I was thinking this vehicle might need to go but now I see running it for many, many more miles! kurt |
