This is probably the thread for this post, since I'll probably have to re-introduce myself.

I'm Mutaz (Moo-tahz), weird name I know, I have a 2002 Jeep Liberty 4x4 3.7L

Sorry all, I've been gone for a while. Probably close to a few years. Most importantly the Jeep is still on the road and burning gas and rubber. It's a 2002 KJ with some decent mods on it with 142,000.

It's had a few hiccups since I've been active. Just recently the high pressure power steering hose started leaking and I had to replace it. The upper ball joints are starting to wear out again. Replaced the rotors and pads a little while back. You know the usually stuff.

The Jeep is in overall decent condition. Found a bit of dirt and sludge in the oil filler and PCV valve, which has me concerned. Cut open a old oil filter from last year and it seems to be pretty clear. I got rear ended by a Jeep Wrangler and now the left rear unibody/frame section by the gas tank is smashed.

I keep the Jeep pretty well maintained, just replaced the gear oil (front & rear), transfer case, oil changes on 3-5K mile intervals, etc.. The transmission is next on the list here, last replaced 60k miles ago.

The current issue is the interior got soaked with water. I removed the carpet and the floor pans is starting to rust out and the pads are growing mold. So, my weekend/weeknight project is to rip out the interior and dry it out and fix the rust.

My best guess is its the heater core or possibly the weatherstripping on the bottom of the driver side door. Need to do further testing... So now that were all caught up, time for some pictures.

Here is another picture. Pulled out the carpet, front seats and rear seats. Rust throughout the driver side. Found a puddle of water in the indentation in the floor board where the wire harness sits under the driver seat floorboard.

Thoughts on where the water is coming from based on the rust formation?

hmm, hopefully you can follow the stains to the source with a careful eye. That's is an extra lame feature :banghead:

I'm going to run it through a car wash or spray it with a garden hose to see if it leaks. Ran the AC for 5 minutes on high and saw no leaks. Other possibility is that the floor mats I have are crap. Michigan winters are pretty harsh so it could be the snow from the past winters. I could be wrong, but carpet pad tends to stay wet when its enclosed like it is.

Welcome back, man! All the rust makes me nervous. I've had issues with my AC drain being clogged resulting in it dumping water in the left or right (depending on the direction) footwell on hard cornering, and I've unintentionally left the sunroof open overnight during 3 separate rainstorms. I might have to go do some digging. Hopefully, you can figure out where the leak(s) is/are and take care of it/them.
