Hello

Been a lurker for a week, and finally decided to officially join. Recently purchased a Liberty CRD with history in Arizona and Colorado, so very straight, very beautiful and low mileage interior. Engine had a poorly installed turbo upgrade that when combined with a low grade high sulfur engine oil, resulted in a solidly welded shaft that I couldn't even get to spin using duckbill pliers. It was pumping engine oil through the engine so much it was dripping from the exhaust.
Has good compression and no other leaks, so I've been going through the entire periphery, dumping motor oil, cleaning, rinsing, and testing everything. I'm familiar with traditional diesel systems, but new to Common Rail, so learning as I go has been fun. This site has been a huge help in determining the proper course of action, and where to pursue mods that increase durability and efficiency.

Sorry to be all questions and no answers but at this point that's the reality.

I've heard stories about how easily the front bumper on the '06 Liberty Sport falls off. Our driveway is long and washboardy, and frequently seriously rutted by rainwater runoff. The machine we bought has a compromised inner grille support, and the grill-mounted fog lights are free-hanging, and missing the adjusters altogether. I haven't found any used replacement in this half of the US, and certainly not one I can inspect before purchase. All this considered, I'm wondering if replacing the whole bumper with an ARB bull bar bumper, and using that for mounting fog lights wouldn't be a better alternative. Expensive, yes, but how much more than all new Mopar hardware to make it stock-par anyway? Worthwhile insurance or just a waste of money?

How easily they fall off ??? Never heard that before and been on the forums for years
As far as installing an ARB bumper yes they are the best BUT you also will need to upgrade your suspension, stock won't handle the weight

Thanks for the info. I have never seen an example of that myself either, just heard stories.

My last jeep was 2004 Grand Cherokee Overland that I made the mistake of leasing new. It was the hardest thing for me to let go in a good long time. I'm looking forward to getting back into a Jeep, and having fun going through it and "making it mine" as you say.

It seems the front is already where the attention is needed. I'm less interested in height though, than increased travel and weight capacity and control. With this in mind, what should I be looking at for the future?

Welcome aboard, got questions, just ask, you will get answers and great advise!!! :wink:

For posting photos, Photobucket or some other web based photo sharing app is your friend!
Upload photo to a photo sharing app, copy image link on web page for the uploaded image, while in the LOST editor mode (PostReply),
click on the "Img" button at the top (which will put the correct IMG code into your post) and paste the web image link between the "][" brackets! > [img]//link_address_goes_here[/img]

It should look similar to this:

When you Submit your new post to the forum, your picture should be visible.

There! Finally

Everything on that front looks clean and straight. Even from the bottom, and with the hood opened, but when we disassembled it, The pusher fan in front, the radiator in back, and everything in between had paint-pen wrecking numbers / descriptions on them in hidden places. Oddly, the plastic radiator support was not replaced, and the fog light mount brackets are broken and the top transverse support where the front grill clips on was snapped in the middle and over by the battery area. I should have caught that one, but didn't.

It looks much better without the massive cloud of oil smoke it generated while idling.

Wish mine was low miles and in good shape when I got it haha... had to do a huge list of work to get my CRD in shape before I could start doing any customizing.

I have seen a bumper fall off due to mud bogging, mine my room mate ran over with my F350 and stayed on, needed a new bumper cover due to it being crushed and ripped.

I am looking to get the ARB bumper after I install my new suspension mostly for recovery options more than fear of the stock one falling off
