I recently purchased a 2006 Jeep Liberty CRD.

The previous owner installed quite a few modifications, including a remote start, a "brite box", and what appears to be an additional alarm system. It also has an electric fuel pump with the live wire stuffed into the starter fuse in the front fuse box. It's probably a coincidence but the front left headlight was also dimming, or low on power a few days after I purchased it.

I've already disabled the ignition by accident, after replacing a draining/discharging battery with a new one. An added bonus is that it only came with one key fob, so I'm probably screwed. I've already read the owner's manual. There is a paragraph that specifically states that remote starts aren't recommended on this model, so I may go ahead and pull it.

I'm using this message board for research, as I continue to troubleshoot. This should be fun. If I discover anything amazing or novel in the process, I will post it here.

The self programing option will not function with just ONE valid key, you MUST possess at least TWO valid functioning keys to use the new key self programing feature to wit:

CUSTOMER LEARN METHOD
The Customer Learn feature is only available on domestic vehicles, or those vehicles which have a U.S. country code designator. This programming method also requires access to at least two valid Sentry Keys. If two valid Sentry Keys are not available, or if the vehicle does not have a U.S. country code designator, the Secured Access Method must be used to program new or additional valid keys to the SKREEM.
