Hello, mickywillis! Welcome to the LOSTJEEPS.com forum! Your 2004 KJ CRD has some different pollution control components than the 2005 - 2006 KJ CRD vehicles that were sold here in North America. Remedies that have been developed here may or may not work in your case, but I am certain that there are members on here from other countries outside of North America that can help you. I am aware that vehicle pollution control in the U.K. is a much more serious affair than in most jurisdictions in North America, and it looks like you may need to bring your vehicle pollution control equipment back to O.E. specifications to pass the MOT. It could also be a condition of the fuel injection system over-fueling the engine, causing the black smoke. You should post your failed MOT test; perhaps it will tell us what kinds of pollution are being emitted by the engine and therefore provide clues as to where to look to fix your problems. Have you owned this vehicle since it was brand new? If not, did the previous owner give you any information as to any modifications he or she may have done or had done? Does this engine have an aftermarket engine tune? |
