Hello there. Bought a 2005 2.8crd Kj for the wife to learn how to drive in. Many thanks for the info given on here. I have already put much of it to good use. Currently debating an EGR delete of some fashion. Can it be done with software alone, or does the bypass have to be done? Justin |

It is not used for any other engine control functions, it is only used for EGR operation, so if you unplug it, the EGR system will no longer function electrically. It will set a DTC (check engine light), but will not affect engine running, it will only help engine performance! See picture below But please keep in mind, if there is a mechanical fault like the EGR valve leaking by or the FCV partly hanging shut, disabling the EGR system electrically will not stop or prevent its function. The only sure 100% way to ensure total elimination of the EGR system (exhaust soot being sucked into the intake manifold), is to install a block off plate between the EGR valve and the exhaust feed tube from the exhaust manifold. The block off plate can be constructed out of any thin sheet metal, even a lid from a soup or vegetable can. Only tools needed are a pair of tin snips and a drill with a 5/16" (8mm) drill bit. See drawing. Best option is to totally remove/delete all the EGR system components, but this requires locating and purchasing an EGR Delete Kit found online from a few vendors still selling them. Also, after disabling the EGR system by either unplugging the MAF sensor or installing a Block Off Plate, you should remove the butterfly plate out of the FCV (flow control valve) as they are known for the small mechanical gears inside the operator stripping and failing causing the FCV to hang partly shut which will limit air flow and boost pressure from entering the intake manifold. A FCV failure can greatly reduce engine performance and limit normal engine running functions. Regardless of what method you choose to eliminate the EGR function, you will probably want to get a tune (reflash) of the ECM to eliminate the DTC (check engine light) that will be hard set due to non-operation of the EGR system. Yeti ChipTuning di Giacomelli Marco aka "Yeti" on this forum can provide you with custom tune via email to address the removal or unplugging of the EGR valve and FCV. ![]() ![]() |
