Anyone ever attempt to remove the stock amps from the speaker housings and remount with new speakers?

Seems like it should be a fairly straightforward fabrication job, and save soe $$$ to boot!

I'm not sure if you could use the stock amps to power normal aftermarket 4ohm speakers. Each of the front amps has a tweeter and a mid connected to it. I heard somewhere that both the tweeter and the mid are 8ohm speakers wired in parallel for a total impedance of 4ohms at the amp. The stock amp would expect your new speakers to also be 8ohms, installing 4ohm speakers would probably stress the amp. Can anyone verify or discredit this?

??? Not to sure but hey it's worth a shot on some cheap speakers. Thinking about doing this myself. But also look at the mounting bracket for the amp on the speaker. It won't mount to any other speaker without some serious fabrication and there isn't any space in the door for the amp anywhere else. I was planning on replacing the front door speakers and using the amps on some cheapo speakers for my boat. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the amps and speakers. If not I'll do it the hard way, one wire at a time. The passenger speaker cone came apart not to long ago. I put some rubber cement around it and it's been working fine for about 2 months now. Now the drivers side did the same thing but I wasn't so carefull with the cement this time. The rubber got soaked and shrunk up. Now its time for some new speakers.

The full wiring diagrams are avaialable in the KJ Service Manual from Chrysler. You can find the service manual for a cheaper price on eBay as well. If you get the digital version you can search it for key words and print out expendable copies, which is extremely handy. The manual really is invaluable; I wouldn't have been able to do my KJ audio system without it.
