antenna location

that wire is a ground which isn't necessar for this install. It wouldn't effect AM reception anyway.

This is odd.

Have you tried to remove the AR-1 and see if you get AM/FM reception? Perhaps there's a bad wire somewhere.

I never listen to AM so I am no help. I do get some reception but again, I don't worry about AM. I might try to tune it, but I still need to tune my CB also. I do get great reception with the CB and FM.

Yes... I connected the radio directly to the antenna (bypassing the AR-1 converter and the FM/CB splitter wire) with no AM reception. I am at a total lose here as well.

try swapping out parts. maybe there's a bad wire connection somewhere. even a bad antenna. maybe a defective crimp from factory?

Seems the problem was in the factory mount. Not sure why, but when I would screw the spring into the factory mount all the way down, it would not properly ground. We were able to insert a small rubber washer between the spring and the mount to keep it slightly raised to maintain the proper position. So now all is good.

can someone please give more detail on the connection to the stock coax, are you just connecting to the coax at the back of the radio or is there another spot under the kick panel? I am unclear on that, also can I see a close up of the cd antenna into the factory mount?

the wire from the fender mount (the orange one) goes into the kick panel. It joins a wire there that leads to your radio. So I tapped in there for my splitter. It was perfect. Take your kick panel off and you'll see it all there for you.
