home depot has 8x1/2 self tapping screws. when you drill the hole, can drill it smaller and the screw will dig out a bit of metal to make the hole the perfect size. i'll post pictures in my thread below in a few minutes.

The bottom of the page.

I find it hilarious that someone is actually trying to sell that... I've seen people using similar mounts, but home made. If you can't drill 3 holes in a piece of steel angle then you probably shouldn't be driving on the same road as the rest of us... ;)

Hey STFU! That's my Jeep in the pic!
For what it's worth, that's not a straight piece of steel angle. It's hard to tell from those pics but it's trimmed so only the end is angle,.. You'd have to use a grinder to make this mount. For me it was easier to buy it (well actually, I didn't buy it, I was the guinea pig for it so I didn't pay a dime, got it for free with the antenna and cable). However, I think it's worth $20 or so easy and recommend it too those without a grinder and the knowhow to make a nice smooth, straight cut.

how is everyones luck tuning antennas with these mounts? also how is the performance? The local CB Radio shop guy told me that the antenna would be too close to the body metal and would probably cause poor performance, he suggested moving it out away from the body or trying the rack mounted style mounts

I have that exact mount works fine, the only problem I had is with the tuning do to the that cable in the picture ( they call it fire wire ) I had to get a differant one that screws right into the bottom of my antenna tuning problem solved :D

"You guys said it is pretty stout but that is exactly how I have mine mounted and it has come loose from the body a couple of times. If your wheeling involves going through the woods where the antenna will get caught on tree branches, at the very least get yourself a spring for the mount to reduce stress on it. I am considering the Rock Lizard bumper and if I do get it, a new cb stud mount may be the first mod I do to the bumper."

I would strongly recc. using rivnuts in place of the sheet metal screws. I first mounted the bracket with the sheet metal screws, then removed it and was able to get three rivnuts installed. I remounted the bracket using stainless 6mm machine screws in three holes and left the one sheet metal screw....it's not going anywhere now and has a great ground.

so I think my culprit was a bad cable, I moved my mount to the roof and the pl 259 fell off, so I re soldered it on and hooked it all up and immediately got like 1.2
