Hey all,
I cracked open my hi mount brake light and put some led strips in that say they work on any auto electrical system. I tested the brake light with my pc power adapter and everything is working. When I tap into the vehicle wiring it doesnt work. I put the LED power to red wire and the LED negative to the white wire. Anyone know whats wrong? I tested with a voltmeter and it should work

Double check the colors for the positive and negative leads on the LED, sometimes they are reversed.

Here is the info from the FSM.
CENTER HIGH MOUNTED STOP LAMP - WHITE 2 WAY (connector)
CAV 1 - L50 18WT/TN (WHITE/TAN) - FUNCTION - BRAKE LAMP SWITCH OUTPUT
CAV 1 - Z309 18BK (BLACK) - FUNCTION - GROUND

Hope this helps, good luck!

(Oh, and I would love to see some pics of the process if you have. My whole rear are LEDs, except for the CHMSL

Thanks! I enjoyed making them, and I love them. I have to make the CHMSL an LED too.
I'm curious to see what you have come up with.
:)

Hey Infernicus, would you be able to tell me which wires do what for the front turn signal and side marker? Trying to get some LED switchbacks in there.

no worries guys. i will be using that info in the future too :D

one thing on the brake light wiring. I opened mine again today to take a peek. I have two wires one (white and tan) the other (red). So this doesnt really make sense. Black is ground but I dont have a black

***I should make a note that this info is from the 2007 FSM.*****
I'd assume the upper brake light would be easy to tap into, especially with two wires, there are only two options, lol.
Try one way, and if it doesn't work, try the other, lol.

Yeah I thought the same thing, so i tried it each way haha. Didnt work. I hooked it directly to the battery terminals and it works though. I am wondering if niether of those are ground...although that would be strange.

Very interesting, lol.
If thats the case of neither being a ground, then...
I guess, try the positive feed of the LED to the White / Tan
And the ground of the LED to another ground.
