Elusive "brake" wire

I installed my brake controller for my new camper yesterday. All of the reading that I've been doing told me that since I did not have the overhead console I would need to run wires back from the front. I did find a " brake" wire right where it was supposed, or not supposed to be in my case. The problem is that I could not find where it went to in the back so I ran wires anyway. Any explanations as to why it would be in the front and not in the back? I'm up and running already so this is merely curiosity. Thanks.

Do you have a factory tow harness?

No, I have a vehicle specific, relayed, four flat harness with a 4 to seven adapter. It was a little extra wiring but it all works like a champ.

Then you won't have a brake wire. I used a universal 3 to 2 wire heavy duty adapter and wired it into a 7 way.

The brake wire is behind the back right panel in the back. Its park of a wiring harness for the stock tow wiring. Normally if you bought the stock wiring you would just unplug a harness and plug the stock one in. With the aftermarket harness, I found the blue wire in the back and just cut the blue wire from the stock harness. Much easier than running a wire to the back.
