I have been holding off on buying a CB antenna, for I do not know what each type does, base, center, or top. I decided to ask on here b/c I know some of you have much more knowledge than I do on this topic. If someone could explain each type, and recommend the best type, I'd love it!
Best type: Unloaded, the length of the antenna is the same as the electrical length. This just isn't feasible for most people, as the antenna would be huge.
Second Best: Top loaded. The further towards the end of the antenna the load coil is, the better the performance. A short antenna needs a lot of loading though, so again, it's a feasibility issue, you just can't put that much weight at the end of the antenna
Third/Fourth: center loaded is better than base-loaded. Either one is probably fine. I had a base-loaded magnet mount antenna I picked up from radio shack and it had at least 3 miles range.

I will not need the CB to reach more than 5 miles at the max, and I don't really want to spend more then $20. I will be using a magnet mount,
The one I got was from radio shack and cost $35. Chances are you can get the same quality for less $$ if you buy used or off the internet or a local radio shop that isn't radio shack.

b/c there is nowhere to mount a CB antenna on our KJ's. THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!
Nonsense! Read the other postings, there are a ton of great places to mount a CB antenna, maybe of which don't require drilling. There's a mount that bolts onto the spare tire, one that bolts to the spare tire carrier, you can get a roof rack mount, or even a hood channel mount.
Hood channel is the one I have, see my writeup here:
