hope you got rid of the plastic around the doors. they made a terrible sound when the bass was pumping through my mids. took them out and all was right. make sure not to loose the plastic pieces that cover the wiring going under the carpet area of the front driver and passenger floorboard. i put floor dampining over it thinking it wouldn't make a difference but it does!

I reinstalled the white plastic layer over the sound damping sheet on the doors for now, but I can always remove them if it turns out to be a problem. Thanks for the heads up though.

...and yeah, I still have those wire covers/floor plates. In fact, I even coated them with 2 layers of spray on sound damping material.

yea i tossed mine and when i put the carpet back in i covered up the rear window switches wire harness so i can't put the back windows down even though i never really did. 2nd subwoofer came in today... so excited to have 2 21 inchers side by side. built will have to wait until work demand is less.

haha...nobody I have had as passengers can find the switches to use the rear windows anyway.

What thickness of sound damping sheet did you use?...and you laid down 2 layers on the whole interior?

I currently have a single layer of .072" on the doors and tailgate, with .042" on the rest of the interior (except behind the dash).

I don't have enough material, budget, or time to double up on my whole interior. I figure I will have a little left over and probably double up on atleast the roof. I was thinking that the firewall and roof probably transmit the most outside noise. Which areas would you say are the most critical?...so I will know where else to apply the remainder as a second layering.

I'm hoping the extra spray-on damping I used in the cavities will make up for not using multiple layers of damping sheet.

I am going to finish the rest of the damping tonight, so I should be reassembling the interior across this weekend. I am sure I will have more mysterious "extra" parts to ask about.

Also, does anybody have advice for mounting an amp on the passenger rear seatback? Does the sheetmetal pan span across the entire seatback? Do you think I should drill and tap it or just use self tapping sheetmetal screws?

Also, I am considering using spacers/standoffs underneath the mounting screws/bolts to make sure I get airflow around all sides of the amp for cooling. Am I being too cautious?

Thanks again.

i used hushmat for floor covering gots kinda a 1/8 thick foam then 1/4 in rubber. used 3 layers of hushmat for the rear tailgate one on the inside and 2 on the outside. used a thick foam like stuff for the roof, the thick tar stuff for the doors and fenderwells in the rear. the biggest spots you're going to get noise from the is transmission hump, wheel wells in the rear (go thick there), the firewall (to much work to rip dash apart so just get it in there best you can), doors, and of coarse the roof! as the the amp unless you mount it upside down you don't have to worry about cooling. as it is a 5 channel amp it will tend to get pretty hot reguardless if you put a fan on it or not. use self taping screw if you like but i suggest finding a better way of mounting the amp like using a piece of mdf to use as a base plate for the amp or something along those lines.

wow Frosted, you went all out. My setup pales in comparison to what you did. You said that you barely noticed a difference after all that you used? I hope I can atleast notice some difference from what I did because it's sooo much work.

I have one sheet of thick and almost 2 sheets of the regular material left after covering everything once. I am going to do the roof again and the rear wheel wells because you said those are important, but will dread the wheel wells because they are such a pain to do!!!

I'll try and post some pics of the completed job tomorrow night.

Thanks again for your advice and guidance throughout all this. :)

if they're the bars i think you're talking about then remove both the bottom and top little plugs and muscle in a small socket that's what i had to do the handle isnt made of hard plastic so it kinda formed around the socket. bout the only screws unique to the car. best to use a screwdriver type handle has using a ratchet is a pain.

really not that bad...I used either a small flathead screwdriver or a pick to remove those plastic plugs, then used a deep socket to remove the bolts which hold the handles onto the A-pillar.

The deep socket is the key...if you don't have a deep socket than you might have to use a drill bit to open up the hole or just use lots of muscle like Frosted said to make a regular socket fit.

Keep the pics coming! I love stuff like this. :D :D :D

Took me forever to figure out what those silver things were(side air bags) and what was going on with the sun roof.

It would be a great time to figure out why the ebrake loosens up so much in that handle(pet peeve).

Also, those covers on the doors act as a cover for the speakers when it rains, etc. If you take them out youve got to cover the speakers someway. Friend of mine took those out and one cold morning he couldnt get any sound to come out of his speakers, they had frozen!

my speakers are to deep to have the plastic in there and the bass it produces just make the plastic make terrible noise i think. still gotta deaden the door panel a bit.

THAT'S the noise that's been irritating me!

Thanks!

Sorry it's been so long guys. I got in a pretty bad skiing accident/crash. I was brought via helicopter to the hospital at Albany for 1 week. The surgeons/doctors temporarily removed part of my skull to relieve some pressure from my brain. Thankfully I am doing a lot better now and am expected to recover 100%. :-)

BTW, I have some pictures if anybody wants to see them.

Jeeze guy! Glad you're doing better! Maybe it's karma for flaunting all these nudie pics of your poor jeep in its' delightful nakedness. Poor thing, should have covered her with a blanket so she wouldn't be ashamed.

Seriously though, glad you're still kickin and recovering, sometimes I think Jeep drivers are about as tough as their Jeeps!

Get better!

(Post more nudie pics of your jeep , shes hawt! haha)
