Yeah, the reception will vary by the land terrain but I should be able to get about 1/2 mile in any terrain and more then that in open air.

Okay I'll add my two cents...

Portable CB radios are expensive, slide about your Jeep on the trails, are easy to lose or be stolen and lack very good range.

You should be able to find a used 40 channel CB at a yard sale/flea market for a cheap price. A new one runs $70.
Mine cost me $5 and I've slipped it beside my driver's seat. I spent more money on the K30 magnet mount antenna that I've put right in the center of my roof.

But if your bound & determined go ahead and buy yourself a portable radio. At least you'll be able to talk to the Jeeps in your immediate area.

I have been wheeling ( trail riding ) since 05 and have yet to knock over my magnetic mount and it sets right behind my factory roof off road lights . :mrgreen:
