Post subject:  NASA > Google Earth

I am not sure if this is the right place but here goes...

If you like Google Earth, you will LOVE NASA's new World Wind application. Where Google Earth is using low-resolution sat images it bought on the free market, World Wind uses NASA's sats including maps of the Earth, moon and even Mars. Did I mention you can even overlap it with current weather conditions and clouds. It is a free download at http://worldwind.arc.nasa.gov/

Enjoy

Post subject:  Cool program

I just found a program called Desktop Earth that uses Blue Marble photos, and a pic called Earth Lights. It sets yous background as a picture of Earth, with your timezone centered, and automatically updates as the sun moves from east to west. It also has seasonal updates, based on the moth (i.e. snow in Canada in the winter time). There is also a live clould cover feature.

Best of all it's free!

For those running Linux/BSD (X in general) and wanting something like "Desktop Earth", you can use Xplanet.

Xplanet + cloud script
Xplanet maps
Nearly-live Planetary Desktop Background
