I'm looking for the cheapest route to hardwire my ipod into a factory Liberty radio. Any suggestions. The only thing I have found is a kit for 120.00 that charges it and you can control it from your factory stereo. I don't want a fm transmitter. I had one and they are terrible. Any help would be appreciated.

You have a few options:

1). The way you just mentioned, where the iPod is charged and controlled by the factory head unit. This way is more expensive, since the adapter is actually a control unit for the iPod. You can even use the steering wheel audio controls. Mopar offers one that is said to work with the factory decks.
2). An aftermarket controller that works the same as (1). It interfaces as a CD changer and can control the iPod. Probably cheaper than the Mopar official model, but not by much.
3). The FM Transmitter. You said the quality is terrible, and I agree, they are pretty awful.
4). An Auxilliary Input cable for the factory radio. This will give you an aux input that you can plug any audio source in. Cheaper than option 1, but the only control you get is volume, all music selection has to come from the iPod.
4). Aftermarket deck and iPod control cable/box. Many vendors have products that will do that.

I think #4 is the closest to what you are looking for. Search google for something like "aux input ipod RB1" (replace RB1 with your factory stereo model). I found some for around $50-$60, your luck may vary.

Make sure you check compatibility with your factory radio before picking one. You may have to forfeit the cd-changer control if you have a changer. Also, read up on how the device is controlled, some of these controllers use nonstandard things (like, the 3 button is playlist select or something equally non-intuitive)
