Just finished hard wiring my Sirius Sportster 4 today and I'm pretty disappointed with the sound quality. I have an original stock HU with the Infinity package, aftermarket dash tweeters and the Mopar sub. CDs, DVD and FM sound great! I rate the Sirius quality less than FM and better than AM, which is pretty sorry. The Sirius is hard wired too into an aux. input device (no FM modulation. Music stations suck to listen to. Local traffic, the comedy stations, news, Playboy etc. have content that make the purchase worthwhile though. Sirius get the quality up!!!!! |

try using the fm modulator option instead of the aux input. Maybe the stock h/u has poopy inputs????? I know mine sound sjust like a cd is in the sound is a bit lower but other than that it is great! |

You could have a ground loop. This occurs when there is more than one path from the device to ground. The Sirius receiver and headunit are probably grounded directly to two different locations on the chassis and through the audio cable. To fix this, if its the problem, you could try installing an isolator in the audio cable between the Sirius receiver and the headunit. You could also ground both devices to the same place instead of relying on the chassis as a path between them. Ive actually got an optical cable between my headunit and amp and have both of my devices grounded to the same distibution block. |

Go with a wired FM modulator as apposed to the AUX input you are using. The wired modulator will do wonders for you. The wireless FM mods in sat. radio units now have been dulled down to weak due to FCC regulations that they are worthless now. |

Have your tried hooking up somthing else to the Aux like a MP3 player or somthing to determine if its in the HU or on the Sirius side? I dont know the sirius kits as much because I'm am XM fan but they should be the same hookup. |

Yes, I too am disappointed with the Sirus satellite radio sound quality. I currently have the sportster. They claim digital quality. BULL S$%T!....if you read the specs it's almost sad. If you use a direct AUX hook up the Sportster puts out a Singnal to Noise Ratio (S/N) of about 70%. When you use the FM modulator, the S/N is at best 55% or what ever the best receiver has which is not more than 60%. When I mean best receiver, something that's competition spec. But anyway, compare this to a good old cheap CD with a S/N of 100 or so, and a high end tape deck (yes tape deck) with Dolby B & C which has a S/N ratio of 70%....now you understand. They've gone back to tape quality! So it is a digital signal, but the sound quality is garbage! It's all a gimic to believe buddy is getting D.I.G.I.T.A.L radio. So if you want the best sounding satelitte radio, make sure you hard wire it to the AUX input. You will get a noticable difference in sound. As for the FM modulator, it's okay....that's pretty much it. As for the content, it's great. At least musics wise. No commercials, another load of S#$T!. On the business and news channels, there is more commercials than content! I am, however, curios what the factory installed, or whole units with satellite capability sound like, but for the most part, all the portable stuff is garbage sounding! |

I have XM... (really don't know why I still have it) but yes the sound quality stinks. Not that my audio connection to my HU is lackluster.. but XM compresses the crap out of the music.. and on most channels I bet they eq any information over 13k out.. So pretty much satelite radio equals listening to a 96kb mp3 file... NICE!!... I'd rather have 15 stations that sounds good.. than 170 that sounds like I have tin foil in my ears |
