I didn't take pics but I added Kenwood 6 1/2 in the rear and Kenwood 6 1/2 components in the doors. It's a round hole that isn't much bigger than 6 3/4 inches. You could cut it out to fit though, if you're up to the challenge.

It'll take a good while with a dremel or air powered cutting wheel to make the 6.5"s in the back to fit 6x9s.

If you do deside you want to go this route, i would highly reccommend taking a peak and making sure you arent going to run into any fit issues with motors and such that could be in the door panel. Also wiring that is in the door panels as well may come into play.

Make sure you play out every worst case scenario in your head before you start cutting

Honestly, you'd be better off just getting a quality set of 6.5s up front like a component set and just putting some mediocore coaxils in the back, amp the front component set, run the rears off the deck.

the only reason I was thinking of going this route is that I have a brand new pair of Infinity 3 way 6x9s in the box nut I dont want to butcher the door to make them fit, a little modifying is ok but the inner frame also gives the door some support

I also wanted to run the 6x9s because they can put out more bass and I wouldnt need an additional subwoofer

If you're REALLY set on using the 6x9's, I'd rather build some small enclosures for them and put them up high just behind the rear seats. You're going to run into all kinds of issues trying to mount the 6x9 in the 6 1/2" opening. That way however, you'll either have to extend the rear speaker wiring to the 6x9's and disable the factory rears, or run an amp to power them which also means running power, ground, signal, remote turn-on, yada yada yada to the amp. You also can't tap off of the rear speaker wiring and use both the factory rears and the 6x9's since then you would be splitting the resistance in half, causing the radio to try to put out more power than it was designed to, since the speakers are running in parallel. The formula is R1xR2 over R1+R2, if ya wanted to do the math.

Just a bit of my rambling.

I put the 6x9s in the rear doors had to do a little bit of trimming the metal and then spaced them out from the doors a little so that the window wouldnt hit them when it is down. now I have the problem that they kick out so much bass that the doors rattle, I also changed the deck to a Pioneer Premier which helped out with wattage to the speakers, what is a good type of sound deadener to use, I would prefer a roll on type as opposed to the stick on type

I used dynamat for my doors. i didnt do the whole door. they make a square thats about 16" x 16" thats goes over the speaker hole. than you cut into it to mount the speaker. it gives area the speaker is mounted on a little more firmness and density than just the door. It seems to have worked for me. Im running Infinity reference 6" components in the front off a bridged amp and my rear are infinity kappa 2 ways off my Pioneer head. In addition i have a 12" sub with its own amp in the back. My pioneer head has built in high and low pass filters for the speakers and sub (with its own dedicated ouput). i have the speakers cut off below 80hz and the sub picks it up from there. that way i have no unnessesary bass going through the speakers.

Pioneer DEH-P6800MP

Crutchfields USED to sell adapters for this same reason. 4x10 to 6x9 and so on. If not you can fab some out of MDF, no need to cut your doors up. Just make sure to check for issues when the window is down all the way. Take you time and you can do anything. 22 years of installing so I may not know too much about this. Good luck.

you still might have to trim the doors a little like I did and then I made my own spacer, but some of the reason was because the magnet was pretty big on mine and they do run close to the window when it is down I have about 1/4 " of clearance between the two,

In response to the rear gate I dont see why they wouldnt fit in there and there are now worries of window or track like doors and you might be able to get a more solid sound from the bass less space for air to escape, but you will have to put some kind of speaker grills on them, I was trying to make everything appear to be stock for thieves and still have a decent stereo
