I have Rockford Fosgate seperates up front. I blew my left( distorts w/any bass at all). i think I should replace/upgrade these speakers. Do I have to get a whole new set of sperates again, and replace everything(tweeters too), or should I find a better set of mids? how will they be with the existing tweeters?
I am running an Eclipse ea3422 amp. Not tons of power, but very clean. Any opinoins for new mids for this set-up? ANy opinions would be helpful.

look for a set of CDT mids. They make a great product.

If you want to change the whole front stage, Polk makes an extremly nice set of components

thanks for the reply. I really don't want to pull the tweeters, but I realize they are kind of "mated" with the mids. So would it be ok to mix brands? I'm not trying to win any compititions, I just like loud clean music.

Ideally, it's not recommended to mix and match brands of speakers since, like you said, they design the mid and tweeter to go together for reasons such as construction material, frequency roll-off, and crossover points. Trying to blow the dust off of my memory from back in the install days and MECP studying days.

Hope this helps at least some!

JMLoughrey: CDT's look like a great product. I had never heard of them before now. If I went with a set would I use the same crossovers the RF's came with? Sorry, I have very minimal car audio install expertise. This is why I am hoping just to replace the two front door speakers only. And is why I paid a shop for the original install.

You could get away with using the same crossovers. They basically filter out any unwanted frequencies from passing to the speaker, so getting the same size, same type of speaker (in this case a 6 1/2" woofer) would be serving the same purpose. Crossovers basically make sure, for example, that your tweeters aren't getting your subwoofer frequencies, and so on.

I've always been partial to a/d/s component sets from the install days, as they sound absolutely amazing. Doing those, I would recommend swapping out the woofer and tweeter.
