Hey guys. Just got through putting my two 8" soundstream subs under the front seats of my Liberty. The boxes are exactly 12" by 12" across the lid. The bottom is molded fiberglass that is shaped to the metal under the carpet. I cut the carpet out to get more room (netted about an inch of depth. I then molded the floor of the box to the chassis. I lined the floor first so the box is removable, even though you have to take the seat out to get it out. Sounds very good! I have pics up on my car domain site.

Looks good.. How many watts do you have going to them?

I noticed you had the skyjacker lift. Are you happy with it? Had any problems out of it?

I started out with a Scosche amp (supposedly 550 watts, love how amps are overrated nowadays). It acted like 50-100 RMS watts per channel. It was 1ohm stable though! I had it bridged mono on the two 4 ohm subs in parallel! It handled it like a champ, no overheating. It's possible that I had as much as 150 watts each on them, but I doubt it.

I've got my other amps installed now though. I'm useing old school Precision Power competition amps from back when I had a show stereo. It's reated at 4 by 50 so they supposedly only have 50 watts a piece on them at the moment. PPI routinely under-rated their competition amps to give people an edge in watt classes, so it's likely much higher. I have an A600 (150X150 watt) mounted next to the 4X50. I'll hook it up tomorrow and see how it sounds. I'm betting I can put all the power I want on them with the A404 though (4X50).

My crossover is an Audio Control electronic crossover. I plan on putting four 6.5" component sets in the doors and making a removable 12" sub box for the hatch. The plan is to have the 12's run off of the A600 at 2 ohms for 300 watts each (or 600 watts to one 12) and have the A404 run the doors and 8's.

I'll also be putting in ZERO gauge power wire to the amps. I'll have a hookup for a portable winch (that hooks into a 2" receiver hitch). I am going to put a front hitch on and this way I can winch from the back or the front by hooking the winch up to the amp wire when pulling from the rear.

Oh, and I never did answer the question about the skyjacker lift. I've been very happy with it. I haven't done any trail rides or anything yet though. Ride quality is about what you'd expect in a lifted vehicle. If anything, I was still surprised that a true trail rated vehicle rides this smooth with a lift. I mainly bought the vehicle when I was firefighting to allow me to get to the rural fires in my POV when I responded directly from my house.

I thought about it. Unfortunately they'd probably be cost prohibitive. I probably have around $125 in materials alone. Not to mention they currently require cutting the carpet. I suppose I could make some 1/2" MDF ones and not cut the carpet... Still, might not be a bad idea... :?

Great job!! I am looking at the slim kenwood sub. I think it will fit under the rear drivers seat and it's amped too! If I had the spare time, I might try your way. Much too lazy. :D

I did put the A600 on the 8's. It sounds even better with it and they are handling the power fine. I'm very pleased with the sound of the subs now. Very musical, can still go pretty low. I notice the bass drops off in the really low ranges. It still does a great job with hip hop and R&B. I really don't need any more subs in the hatch now. I've disconnected the 10" so that I can fully evaluate the 8's and I'm pretty happy. I'll probably go ahead and make a box for 2 10's, 1 12, or 2 12's for when I really want to pound the pavement. I'm going to leave the a600 on the 8's though. Next is door speakers...
