Is it just a matter of swapping out my exisiting radio to get the I-pod integration kit to work or is this a BUS issue?

Hey sleeve,

I know it's slightly off-topic, but just wanted to help a bit. I have an '02 Rene and ended up installing a JVC KD-AVX2 with the JVC iPod adapter and it works amazingly. Let me know if you have any questions on the install and/or the radio.

I am thinking that I have two options:

Option 1 - install a Mopar (Chrysler) Radio from an 05+ and pray that my steering wheel controls still work. Then install the intigration kit whilest I'm in the guts of the center stack. There is an RBQ on eBay

Pros: Factory Look and very easy "plug and play" installation
Cons: Might not work and I could loose my steering wheel controls regardless..

Option 2 - Install an aftermarket HU + the device to reprogram those steering wheel buttons. I've always been a fan of the motorized face like this one from Kenwood

Pros: Lots of them - from better sound to a more colorful display, etc.
Cons: I'd have to get the extra stuff to retain my steering wheel controls, & then the issue of Theft

Sounds like a plan. Here's a link on the Bay that might send you some money. Crutchfield is pretty high-priced. I checked ikesound.com and they didn't have that model. There are cheaper ones on eBay, but this link at least has some decent feedback.

Here's a link to the KD-AVX2 that I did in my KJ. I also have the iPod adapter for it, and like you said, you'd have to get an external unit for using your steering wheel controls. IIRC, there's an "OE Remote" input at the back of the radio for that exact purpose. Looks and sounds great, and I've been meaning to get pics up here.

Keep us posted with what you go with. Let me know if you have any questions.

I'm sure I'll have a billion questions but I will keep this tread updated to track my choices and progress down the line.

Step 1 - pick a direction..

Sounds like a plan! I went to take pics of the HU I put in the KJ and the digi cam's battery was not cooperating. So after a nice charge, I'll try to get the pics up tomorrow.

Update:

I decided on the USA-Spec IPOD adaptor as seen here: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-zEnYXzT2fo ... 581PA11CHR

Just ordered it tonight so we'll see how it works when it shows up
