Post subject:  Steering wheel control adapter for aftermarket radio*solved*

Hello,

I am planning on buying a Alpine CDA 9857 and keeping my steering wheel controls in my 2005 KJ. Has anyone done this yet?
I am a little confused what modules I have to get, one guy told me I need 3 seperate boxes.

Hey Daniel,

Check out this link. They mention Chrysler/Dodge, but don't mention Jeep specifically. I imagine you could send them an email to ask if it would work with the KJ. My radio has an input that this adapter plugs into, but my KJ doesn't have steering wheel controls so I wasn't to concerned with it. Let me know if you have any other questions, and I'll see if I can help!

I went there already to check. There is a guy on ebay who seels a Alpine HU with steering wheel control. He's got a 05 Grand Cherokee and he says you need the SWI-ALP, SWI-CHY, and the SWI-CAN module. Weird. I guess I send them an email to check.

I haven't done it yet - but Crutchfield (i know, i know...) can send you the exact "gismo" to reprogram those fancy buttons that you and I love so much.

I talked to the guys from PAC, and they said all I need is the SWI-ALP module, which goes for $50 on ebay. The way it looks, you only have to connect one three wires. Power, ground and the signal cable from the steering wheel.

Fantastic! If you do go that route - could you update the thread with your results?

endurance, ive got an alpine head unit with a swi-x adapter. cheaper and you can program it to do anything you can do from your remote. i went through this with mine, connect it to the grey/white wire from the steering wheel, not to the sterring wheel.

just incase the other plan fell through

Ive got the pac-adapter for my Pioneer headunit and love it. I had a hard time finding a place to put the sensor. I ended up drilling a hole in the side of my steering wheel cover and sticking it in there.

Also, the instructions tell you to splice into the wrong color wire. It took me forever to figure out what was going on. Im just glad I had the wiring diagrams from the FSM. 8)

I forget what color wire it told me to use and what color I ended up using. Sorry.. :?
