I just had a 12" 800w Quantum, w/ a 340 Jensen amp installed in my KJ (LOVE IT). But after I turn off my Jeep, a few seconds later, it makes a weird "pop" noise... Is this normal?

PS - does anyone know where I can get one of those covers that protect the sub woofer? I'm still gonna be throwing my skates and stuff in the back and would like to have something to protect the speaker.......

Hmmm... I play guitar and when I turn off my stack the amp drains it's stored power and you get a thud noise.

I also had a surround sound receiver that would do the same thing.

I've never had it happen in car audio, though.

Crutchfield sells a lot of speaker grates.

I was a mobile DJ for many years, and there's a routine when it comes to powering up and powering down equipment to prevent speaker pops and surges.

When powering up, always turn on source, preamp, and amps in that order.

When powering down, turn off amp, preamp, and source in that order.

The pop you're hearing is probably due to your amplifier having a delay when it turns off after you've turned off your deck and the ignition. Either the amp shuts off briskly and leaks signal, or it has a fade off feature where it drains its available power slowly causing a signal surge. Either situation can cause a pop.

It shouldnt be a big deal unless the pop is tremendously loud (since its a subwoofer after all and can handle high power). As a DJ, I'm more concerned if the pop happens to the high frequency equipment like tweeters and supertweeters.

If it keeps bugging you though, just splice a switch into the hot wire going to the amp to be able to turn it off before your deck and the ignition.

thanks for the info..............

now I notice that after listening to music for about 15 mins to or from work or school......I start to feel off balance, when I am walking around. Kind of like I am on a boat swaying back and forth. Anyone ever get that feeling?

When the music sounds too loud or seems like its beginning to kick your booty somehow, it means you're getting too old, haha!

Actually it is probably from too much vibration at the inner ear. Since the ears are what provide all of your balance and damage them, it's hard to stand up.

I know what you are talking about "feeling off balance". I was at a concert once, and I walked within about 2 ft of the speakers (which were about 8 ft tall). The volume alone was so loud that I got dizzy and off balance as I walked past. Even though I only walked past it for a few seconds. But I have never had a car do that to me, and I used to be a car audio installer. I would suggest dropping the volume a bit. I have noticed that my hearing has diminished from the loud music. It is hard for me to distinguish sounds and voices from background noise.
