Don't know much about CB's - but general electronic troubleshooting - it sounds like either your ground or your voltage source changes when the engine's running - I'd put a meter on them and watch - see what the levels are - and if there are any spikes or drops as you switch things off and on. |

I'll second that... where did you tie your power supply for the CB into? If it's in the radios constant power source (the one that keeps your presets, and the clock on time) it might turn off when you turn the vehicle on... Other than that I can't think of anything else.... maybe a dome light? More information about the hookup would help.... pictures would help even more..... just check with a multimeter (make sure it's volts DC) that you have power to the CB when the vehicle is on.... and no power when it is off... Trying to help.. -Mark |

On our last run I discovered my CB was not working and when we finally got it hooked up I kept blowing the fuses in the power cord of the CB. The unit is a Cobra 29 LTD Classic. I was originally running it thru a cigarette lighter power hookup, but it was blowing the fuse and not working when the KJ was turned on. With the Jeep off it would work crystal clear. I thought it may have been a bad ground, but we took the bottom floor side panel off (NOT door panel) and grounded it to a bolt that was suggested as a "factory ground" by a member of the group. We still had the problems. I think it may have done with the fuse we were running the power off of but I cant be sure. Could the CB unit be bad?? I guess my question is...what fuse should I run the power source off? I'm pretty sure my ground is not the problem but my knowledge to electronics/power sources/fuses is very minimal so I could be very wrong in my assumption. Can anyone help? |

I think you just need a new power cord because we hooked it up the same way i have mine wired in and his fuse for the power cable to the CB kept poping. I'm thinking its the CB box because mine works fine. didn't you say you bought it used? we can try my CB in your libby next time or try someone elses. also I can bring my multimeter next time we go wheelin. |

Yup and it very well could be the case. Maybe I should head to the local truck stop to see if they have a new power cord? I can't see spending more money on another Cobra right now, so I may try a new cord. If not than I'm guna wait for a while and buy a new one. |

How about some info: 1. Is radio grounded well? 2. Is antenna grounded well? 3. Does it transmit & receive ok when you are driving? Terry |
