Post subject:  Amp Fan

i bought a fan from radio shack thats designed for computers because my amp is in a semi inclosed space and doesnt get much air flow and will over heat often causeing it to cut out.

ive got it mounted on the amp, but where do i find a switched source? preferably on the amp.

right now ive got it hooked to the 12v and ground wire on the amp, but could i get it to be turned on/off when the amp is turned on/off by the remote from the head unit?

Yes you can but I would run the power through a relay. I don’t know how much power the remote wire can supply but it would be enough to run a small relay.

A standard 80mm PC fan only draws 0.2A at the most. You should be able to wire one directly in parallel with the remote-on wire. Just connect the positive wire of the fan to the remote-on wire and the negative wire of the fan to ground. Of course, be sure your remote-on wire has an upstream fuse to protect your head unit.

well i hooked in the fan to the remote wire and it tripped the head unit and it didnt play any sound. i turned the car off and turned it back on, and it was fine.

so will a relay correct this problem? what size?

then fans rated current is 0.32 amps max. rated power of 3.84 watts max.

Any 12V coil relay at Radio Shack should work.
