I don't know if this will be useful to anyone else, but I've been annoyed for a long time that the battery for '02 and '03 KJs is (a) not available at Costco and (b) so weak.

So, today I was at Costco looking at Optimas. They're up to $140 now--a bit rich for my blood. So I looked at the Kirkland Signature batteries and decided to try a Group Size 25 (Fitment Guide #6) battery.

These batteries have a 36 month replacement/100 month prorated warranty, 600+ CCA (compared to 525 CCA stock), and they fit PERFECTLY. They're just under an inch longer and a little bit taller, but they sit nice and snug in the battery tray.

And they're only $44--less than 1/3 the cost of an Optima. Not bad, if you have a Costco membership and don't feel like you really need an Optima.

As a disclaimer, I should mention that Consumer Reports has published ratings for a bunch of batteries, and Kirkland Series always seems to show up between the bottom and the middle of the pack, although they don't rate Group 25. On the other hand, it's easy to return stuff.

Incidentally, I just barely replaced the original battery after almost 6 years of ownership. It was still working, just not turning the engine over as energetically as it once did. And a mechanic buddy of mine said you should replace your battery every 3 years.

I replace mine every 3-4years. I have heard it also helps gas mileage because older batteries put more of a toll on the alternator since they need to gcharge more often.

Maybe a bit off topic

But what is Costco? I have never seen one but found out there is one not too far away. Is it like Sam's club?

It is better than Sam's Club in my opinion, but granted I have a bias against Wally World as they are trying to shoehorn a Super Walmart onto a 26 acre piece of land directly bordering my property. I would get to have the auto service center on my side to boot.

But yes, Costco is a warehouse club very similar to Sam's Club. We have both here in the Chicagoland area. BJ's Wholesale Club is another version I have heard about in other areas.
