Post subject:  Mounting a CB antenna inside the vehicle?

Just out of curiosity:

Is there any reason a CB antenna couldn't be mounted inside the vehicle? With the trunk mounts, and the other antennas that are close to the body, what difference would it make if I mounted a 3' firestik inside the trunk area? It would save me a lot of hastle routing the cable outside the vehicle, I wouldn't worry about rust drilling into the floorpan from inside, and I can't see any potential problems with that.... after all, they are starting to mount radio antennas inside the dash. Why not do the same for a CB antenna.... then I wouldn't have to worry about a spring, going thru the carwash, or anything.

Just a thought.

The body will interfere with the signal, it might work a little - but you're shielding the antenna.

If you mount the CB antenna inside the jeep, it is not going to work. The reason Radio antennas work inside the vehicle is because they are receiving signals only, not transmitting them. You could still probably receive a signal with the CB antenna inside the vehicle, but you wont be able to transmit very well and will in the end fry your transmitter and your CB.

The body of the vehicle acts as the ground plane or reflective surface for the radio signal to bounce off of once the antenna transmits it.

Could go more into detail, but just check out http://www.firestik.com.

They have a large Q/A section that should answer your questions or just call them up.
