Post subject:  Are all RB1s created equal?

Hi,

I am considering replacing the RBK in my 2007 KJ with an RB1. I really like using the iPod adapter. but the functionality with an RBK is very limited. The GPS would be nice too, but after making gazillions of wrong turns using Hertz Neverlost, the GPS is not the driving factor in my decision.

My question is this: I see several different part numbers for RB1 radios. It appears that diffferent parts exist for different vehicke models and years. My concern is that the different part numbers indicate different connector configurations or pin-outs, which may make using a specific RB1 part number impossible in a vehicle for which it is not designed.

After searching this and other forums, I have not seen this addressed (please pardon me if I'm missing something obvious).

How valid is my concern? I see lots of RB1s advertised on eBay, and although many of the database DVDs are a year or two old, will one RB1 plug and play in a 2007 KJ as well as the next? Anything else to consider when making this swap?

Thanks, for your help. -Pat

I'm pretty sure it will work. All Chrysler PCI Bus radios and PCI Bus vehicles should have the same pinout. I've swapped an RBQ from my 05 Liberty into our 06 Wrangler without any problems. Where you run into trouble is with newer CAN Bus radios, like the navigation radio in the Grand Cherokee, but most of them aren't the appropriate 1.5DIN form factor anyway.

Thanks, unixxx -- that's what I was hoping to hear.
