I have infinity speakers that came with the kj. they're blown, big time. I pulled my door panel off today and noticed a strange black box thing that has a connection that has 10 wires running to it.

what the heck is it? when im putting in my new alpine speakers what do i do with it?

I thought it was going to be an easy 1 hour job... nahh thats too simple.

It's the crossover and supplemental amplifier for all speakers on that side of the vehicle. You'll need to replace or remove it when you get new speakers. You can either buy a component set that has an included crossover, buy a seperate crossover, buy a 6-channel amp, or forego your tweeters :( Check out this thread for more info: http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/vie ... hp?t=17796

could i remove the crossover-ampthing from the speaker, mount it some where and extend the positive and negitive wires to reach my new Alpine speaker?
how many amps would that be?

my head unit is an alpine with a 45wX4channel.

I want to keep the spending at a minimum.

The stock tweeters and front door speakers are probably 2W each. You'd need to replace them with 2W Alpine speakers in order to keep the stock crossover. If you eventually plan to get an amp, for now I'd remove the crossovers, leave the tweeters disconnected, and run the new Alpines directly off your Alpine head unit.
